Friends of Greenview and Pioneer Nature Area manages native habitat at Greenview Nature Area, organizes community events, and promotes outdoor education.

Since 1990, the Friends group has planted more than 200 trees and hundreds of wildflower seedlings. An edible garden, a pollinator garden and a frog habitat meadow have been established. The organization also works to control invasive species, conduct prescribed burns for meadow restoration and maintain more than 2 miles of trails.

The Greenview Pollinator Garden is looking beautiful this mid-June. The first blooms of the season are open and the pollinators have found them. White foxglove beardtongue, common yarrow, blue Ohio spiderwort, bright yellow cutleaf coreopsis, and golden Alexanders are drawing butterflies, skippers, and bees in good numbers.

Weeding and planting continue. The season is just getting started. #

Winter brings a whole new kind of fun to the nature area. From ice skating at the pond to quiet cross-country ski tracks through the snow, there’s so much to enjoy this time of year.

On these very cold and windy winter days, many birds find shelter in Greenview, where the habitat offers food and protection, like tiny American Tree Sparrows or flocks of robins tucked into the thickets by the pond.
