I’m excited to be bringing Japanese Storytime to both Livonia and Ann Arbor this month!

We’ll sing songs, move our bodies, enjoy stories together, and explore a little bit of Japanese language and culture through music and play.

No Japanese required! Whether you’re raising bilingual children, hoping to maintain Japanese at home, or simply looking for a fun activity for your little one, I’d love to see you there.

The Blue Birds Children’s Choir from Ann Arbor
presented their musical storybook,
“Let’s Paint a Rainbow Across the World” 🌈

at Eastern Michigan University’s Japan Spring Festival.

We hope our songs brought a little rainbow to your hearts 🥰

ジブリコンサート🌱 (4.18.2026)

「オーケストラシリーズ・となりのトトロ」のナレーションで
ランシング交響楽団の皆様とWharton Center for Performing Arts劇場にて共演させていただきました🥺

久石譲先生が「初めてオーケストラに接する子どもたちと大人たちのために」と編曲されたものです。

プロコフィエフの「ピーターと狼」や、ブリテンの「青少年のための管弦楽入門」など、ナレーション入りのオーケストラ作品のような形態のもので、「オーケストラっていいなぁ」と感じられる作品を作りたい。

そこから、となりのトトロを素材とした、オーケストラシリーズという発想が生まれたんだそう！

オーケストラの演奏とナレーションで、トトロワールドを紡がれていきます。

今回のナレーションは日本語で行われ、
お客様には英語の翻訳がプログラムとともに配られました。

アメリカでの公演でありながら、
あえてオリジナルの日本語ナレーションで🇯🇵✨。

前回はアナーバー交響楽団の、そして今回はランシング交響楽団の皆様の、オーセンティックであることを大切にする姿勢に、毎回ながら深い敬意と感動を覚えます。

チューバの音で、トトロの声を表現するところ
お母さんが病院にいて、寂しいけれど、二人は元気です、というセリフ
ネコバスがやってくる時の、あのワクワクが止まらない音楽
最後に、一本のとうもろこしを置いていくところ・・・

今回で、このナレーションをさせていただけるのも３回目（公演の回数としては５回目）ですが
何度経験させていたいても、いつも、素晴らしい音楽と、感動あふれるストーリーに涙をこらえるのに必死です。

涙を拭われているお客様もいらっしゃるのが、ステージから多く見えました。

また機会があったら、ぜひ皆様にお聴きいただきたいな♡

心より感謝を込めて・・・。

I had the honor of narrating “My Neighbor Totoro – Orchestra Series” with the Lansing Symphony Orchestra.

This special work was arranged by Joe Hisaishi for children and adults experiencing orchestra music for the first time—bringing the magic of Totoro to life through music and narration.

The narration was performed in Japanese, with English translations provided in the program.

Even in an American performance, the decision to honor the original Japanese narration is something that deeply moves me.

From the tuba echoing Totoro’s voice,�to the quiet strength of the sisters,�to the thrill of the Neko-bus arriving…�every moment is filled with wonder!

This was my third time narrating this piece (fifth performance overall), and each time, I find myself holding back tears, moved by the music and story.

I could see many in the audience wiping away tears as well😭

My heartfelt thanks to Maestro Wilbur Lin and the Lansing Symphony Orchestra for this beautiful experience.
