As we kick off July, we want to reflect on the outstanding work our members are involved in through summer internships! Margo Miller, Liora Koenig, Conor Stemme, Emma Griffith, Conner Edmonds, Damon Leja, and Josh Wilk have taken advantage of incredible opportunities. From working for professional teams to marketing agencies, these members have been hard at work; these are our Member Spotlights for the month of June!

As the summer heat starts to kick in and our members start up their internships, we wanted to take a moment to display where they are at and what they are up to! Thank you so much to Jen Durda of Turner Sports for taking the time to speak with our SBA members. Jen talked about her path to Turner and the current evolution of media from traditional broadcast television to digital streaming. Jen also offered some great career advice for our upperclassman members. It was an awesome event!

A huge thank you to Michigan Athletic Director Warde Manuel for taking time out of his day to come speak to our SBA members! Warde talked about his career path, some lessons he has learned along the way, and his current role within Michigan Athletics. He also offered some great career and life advice!

Big thanks to Dr. Steven Broglio for taking the time to speak with our SBA members. Professor Broglio spoke about his research in the field of concussions and the work he and the University of Michigan are doing to improve safety regulations for every level of athlete. Very interesting and insightful event!

Today was SBA’s third and final Detroit Day of the semester! Our members visited Skidmore Studio and toured Little Caesar’s Arena. They also met with members of the Red Wings front office and Mr. Tom Wilson from Olympia Entertainment. It was great to learn more about these companies and how they are helping to revitalize the city of Detroit!

Big thank you to Mike Mikho for taking time to speak to our SBA members. Mike talked about his role with Laundry Service + Cycle and gave insight on the evolving role digital media plays in advertising and brand building. It was an awesome event!

Thanks so much to Greg Hammaren of Fox Sports Detroit for speaking to our SBA members! Greg talked about the evolving world of sport broadcast television and Fox Sports Detroit’s sales strategy when their professional teams are underperforming. Also, thank you to Lauren Pober and Courtney Welch for speaking about their roles in marketing and social media with FSD.

Thank you to Michael Meltzer from Draft Kings for taking the time to speak with our SBA members. Michael walked us through the various stages the company has gone through, and where he sees the sport gambling space going in the future!

SBA had a great discussion last night moderated by Professor Ketra Armstrong about social justice, race relations, and gender equity in sports with former SBA President Dexter Mason and Professor Marissa Pollick!

Our members have some really big dreams, and they start with some really great role models!
