June 1-21, 2025. Three weeks of intensive work where the spotlight is on the Collaborative Piano. The Festival begins on June 5th and ends on June 25th, 2022.

The Collaborative Piano Institute is created by and for —you know it—collaborative pianists! We created a summer program in which YOU get all the attention, and you get an experience tailored to your goals. Our main goal is to prepare you for the next step in your life as a collaborator: graduate school or professional auditions, making pre-screening recordings, job search, as well as in-depth cla

Goodbye CPI! We had such a good time this past three weeks, learning together, creating community, and immersing ourselves in music. We’ll be back next year!!

Yesterday, CPI piano trio intensive students participated in a wonderful masterclass with our very own, Dr. Horacio Contreras!

Another eventful day! This morning, we began dress rehearsals for the exciting recitals taking place tomorrow and the day after. At 1pm, we held two simultaneous masterclasses in halls right next to each other - a vocal masterclass with respected soprano Caitlin Lynch, and an instrumental masterclass with our wonderful Simon Gollo. Finally, the day concluded with another masterclass, a Lieder-focused one this time, from Mr. Katz! He also gave an impromptu speech at the end, which positively melted all of our hearts💗 All in all, we are so inspired by all the insightful advice we've been receiving from our faculty, and of course, from constantly hearing each other play. Tune in to our upcoming recitals at 7pm via livestream!

Weekends are for homemade brownies and ice cream! And mamma mia marathons💗

Getting cheesy for a moment - I've met some of the best people at CPI and know in my heart these friendships will continue long after this summer ends. Thank you guys for making me smile and laugh (too loudly sometimes) every single day. So much love!!

What a busy day! This morning, we were treated to a masterclass from Professor Kyung-A Yoo, who has gotten to know us all individually over the last few weeks. She is such a kind and caring human being, and spent this morning giving us many creative ideas on how to improve our ensemble work! In the afternoon, we attended another insightful masterclass held by the highly esteemed Mr. Howard Watkins. Interesting tidbit: one of our singers sadly fell sick, so her pianist took on the challenge of singing and performing at the same time. Needless to say, this pianist ATE IT UP and received the loudest masterclass applause in the history of CPI 2026! Finally, the evening featured our very special songSPARKS concert, introducing a batch of beautiful new songs composed and performed by CPIers to the world. It's days like this that really remind us of the joys of live music:)

Highlights of Week 2🎼🤩

We wrapped up the week today with a masterclass on Latin American chamber music with Horacio Contreras, a workshop with Juhi Bansal and our SongSparks composers, and final coachings before our recital tonight! We are leaving this week with fresh insights, new colleagues, practice strategies, and many memorable moments on stage and off. ☺️🎉

Congratulations to faculty and students on a stunning first concert of Week 2!✨🎻 Tonight’s recital featured our Piano Trio intensive groups, Vocal Academy singers, and CPI pianists alongside performances by CPI faculty Martin Katz, Blair Salter, Amy Petrognelli, Martha Guth, Erika Switzer and Reverón Piano Trio. Earlier today, we delved into songs from Haiti & the Dominican Republic with Jean-Bernard Cerin, delighted in poetry with Susan Stewart in her second lecture “Poem as Song”, and enjoyed sound-sculpting with Elena Abend in a strings masterclass. We’re closing the day in utmost gratitude for the fantastic coaching that has happened here at UMich all week, and all that is still to come!
