As we close out Hispanic Heritage Month it’s worth pausing to reflect. Where we’ve been. Who’s paved the way. And the path that lies ahead.
This past month, UMLA showed what happens when community comes together.
We close Hispanic Heritage Month with the words:
“Un árbol crece fuerte cuando toda la comunidad lo riega.”
A tree grows strong when the whole community waters it.
UMLA is that tree. And you—the community—have been the ones watering it.
For the first time, UMLA led and co-led back-to-back events in just two weeks, powered by Michigan and USC Latino alumni:
🌟Our Inaugural Social Night in Ann Arbor with PLUMA, featuring the first Latino Alumni Award presentation
🌟 Our signature annual homecoming tailgate in Ann Arbor
🌟 A joint USC–Michigan Latino Alumni tailgate in Los Angeles
🌟 A special LA Happy Hour (Maíz y Azul), proudly sponsored and hosted by .larios
🌟 Our first-ever center-stage moment at the Alumni Association of the Los Angeles Tailgate on USC campus, where UMLA’s board treasurer Ivan Aragon ( ) addressed the crowd
The results speak for themselves with over 200+ alumni coming together. The message from our community is clear: more connection, more mentorship, and more moments to build together.
Seen. Heard. Included.
That’s what we’re building—across alumni, across generations, across campuses.
“Porque cuando estamos juntos, a nadie le falta nada.”
Because when we are together, no one lacks anything.
