To study the brain, you typically have to be a graduate student at a major university. Backyard Brains enables everyone to be a neuroscientist! We provide affordable neuroscience experiment kits for students of all ages to learn (hands-on) about electrophysiology. University of Michigan neuroscience student Sophia Galbavi shows how she uses SpikerBot to turn textbook concepts into hands-on experiments.

Instead of only reading about neural circuits, she can test how changing neural connections affects behavior. With SpikerBot, students can explore pre-loaded robot behaviors like shy, brave, and more — then modify the neural connections and immediately see how the robot responds.

It is a practical way to connect classroom neuroscience with real experimentation, circuit logic, behavior, and learning.
