Mallory Tabb is a Michigan based musician and teacher. She holds degrees in Violin Performance and Music Business from University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and University of Michigan. Mallory implements a holistic approach to teaching in order to equip students to become joyful, independent, self-motivated learners. She has taught violin privately for over two decades, beginning her teaching studio

Some images from the A2SO string quartet’s recent performance at the Saline Farmer’s Market. Loving the cooler weather for outdoor music! Come check us out on 9/6 at the Ann Arbor Farmer’s Market and 9/13 in Ypsilanti. We’ll be performing an eclectic mixture of recognizable favorites with something for everyone including music by Grieg, Ozzy Osbourne, and Chappell Roan among others.

1) J happily picking out the notes for “hobbits” by ear. She came to me every day during her free period to eagerly beg me to teach her more 🥰
2) Student led! C doing the count-off and M trying out the drum.
3) These kiddos memorized their respective Yankee Doodle parts over the weekend so they could put them together with the rest of the orchestra for our final concert.

Looking back on some beautiful moments from this summer’s Hillsdale County School of the Arts string festival! Loved working with these enthusiastic kiddos, holding impromptu “Star Wars orchestra” sessions, and getting to play a drum in public for the first time ever 😝

Do you remember the day you completed your first music book? This girl did it in just 4 months while also mastering her bowhold and violin set-up, learning to read music, and advancing quickly through her Suzuki and scale books!

What if the kids who get labeled “the troublemakers” actually want and NEED music the most? What if by adapting your teaching style to what works for them you were able to make music actually accessible to them and possibly save their lives?
What if the quiet, shy, well-behaved “good kids”, actually need the power of music just as much as the “bad kids”? What if they desperately need it in a way that gives them permission to be LOUD, to make mistakes, and to find and use their own voices?
