A simple fill-in-the-blank exercise helped students understand the power of words and the way they might convey unspoken beliefs.

That’s one way to look at it. Just keep going, you’ll end up somewhere. It may not be where you think you wanted to go. It may be even better.

‪This image of 84-year-old primatologist and conservation expert Jane Goodall and 16-year-old climate activist Greta Thunberg, who just gave a fiery speech at Davos, makes me want to cry. The connection, mutual admiration, and quiet determination in their eyes is just beautiful.‬ ❤️

“You don’t teach activism. You CREATE the conditions to allow young people to IMAGINE a more just world”. Chris Edmonson.

Thus the importance of being able to think like a DESIGNER within the generative ecosystem of design processes and design capacities.

Wholemindesign and inglobal collaborated on a Macul 2018 session yesterday and worked with some amazing educators! We thought about the PROCESSES and CAPACITIES of thinking like designers, considering it a dynamic and living system that grows creative, innovative ideas.

Wouldn't it be something if EVERY school library had a space like this to help students' thinking come alive and help them "build" their understanding?

Happy New Year everyone. For some you will soon be starting back to school and others have just settled in to your summer holiday. I wanted to share some of the current thinking I have done over my holiday with you that I have done as I think more about leading a culture of thinking.

For a long time I've stressed the difference between "work" and "learning," advocating that in a culture of thinking we keep our focus on learning. At the same time, I've always emphasized that the driving vision of a culture of thinking is developing students' dispositions as thinkers and learners. The question of "who are our students becoming as thinkers and learners as a result of their time with us?" is central as teachers working to create a culture of thinking.

Recently, I've been trying to fit these ideas and the broader vision of a Culture of Thinking in with the powerful ideas of passion and empowerment being advocated by the likes of people like Bill Damon, John Spencer, and George Couros. The graphic below is my attempt to do that. Let me know what you think and if you find this useful.
