As predicted, more states are passing legislation mandating businesses take action to boost security measures. Like California’s recently enacted Senate Bill 553, New York’s Retail Worker Safety Act will require employers in the state to perform risk assessments, provide personnel with workplace violence (WPV) prevention training, and create a detailed account of their updated policies. Unlike SB553, the Empire State’s bill takes safety upgrades a step further with additional requirements for physical measures like silent alarms and panic buttons at retail businesses across New York.
If your state doesn’t already have a WPV policy bill coming up for vote soon, there’s a good chance it’s just around the corner. Contact TPOP and we can help you get WPV compliant before you have to.

As the year winds down, business leaders and community officials are on high alert. Religious holidays and landmark dates—like the one-year anniversary of the October 7 Hamas attack—offer added opportunity and incentive for extremists looking to make a point. Just last week, a major plot targeting a Jewish center in Brooklyn, NY was foiled by law enforcement and security agencies.
But while this threat was stopped, the potential for an incident remains. This holiday season every organization—particularly houses of worship and faith-based groups—should be aware of current and long-term threats, assess their own risks, and be ready to take action.
