Good evening SSW warriors,

I offer my deepest apologies for not reaching out sooner! I recognize that these are especially trying times, presenting a level of uncertainty and discomfort that was unexpected to us all. I know that there has been an overwhelming amount of information shared with everyone via the university, the media and social media, so here is what I propose: I (Kendra) am offering to hold a virtual SWIS meeting to discuss:

1. Field placement challenges -- including brainstorming remote field activities
2. Challenges in response to COVID-19
3. Ways that SWIS (or I personally) can be of additional support to you
4. Participate in a mindfulness self-care activity

I'm not sure about you all, but this stay home order has freed up my calendar, so I am going to offer a variety of meeting options and potentially conduct a variety of these meetings depending on interest. I will also be sending this to our email listserv to get into contact with as many people as possible. Please select one date and time below for a virtual BlueJeans SWIS meeting!

Happy School Social Worker Week, SWIS!!!

This week is all about celebrating the wonderful work you all do for our kiddos in the schools!

I would like to invite everyone to attend one of these meetings that will be occurring in Saline in reference to the recent racial comments that have been made. I will be attending the one on Feb. 27 if anyone wants to join me. I feel that this is a very important topic to explore. Reach out to me with any questions/comments! -CJ

The Saline Area Schools district has upcoming conversations on diversity, equity and inclusion:

6:30-8 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 19 at Pleasant Ridge.
6:30-8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 27, at Saline Middle School's Hot Spot.
12-1:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 28, Liberty School board room.
10-11:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 29, Saline Area Senior Center (behind Saline Middle School).
6:30-8 p.m., March 4, Harvest Elementary.
The district is providing an online form for people who wish to provide feedback but who cannot attend the first session, Feb. 19.

Happy Monday lovely SWIS folks! The SWIS leadership team hopes that you are all enjoying your winter break spending time with your families, friends and loved ones and participating in some much deserved self-care activities!

Just before break started, our MASSW representative attended the MASSW board meeting in which our lobbyist shared some extremely valuable updates on legislature that impacts our kiddos and the work that we do in the schools. The September meeting minutes will be uploaded into the SWIS database, we will upload the December minutes as soon as they are sent out to MASSW members! Let this also serve as a reminder that anyone is welcome to attend these meetings. If you are interested in attending the February meeting, please PM this account or contact Kendra Hungerford.

Be on the lookout for updates about future SWIS meetings, as we will be having a 'welcome back' meeting at the beginning of winter semester! :)
