Interested in applying but not sure what the process will look like? Here’s what you can expect:
Step 1: complete your family’s application on our website:

Step 2: we’ll reach out to schedule your family’s interview. (20-30 minute conversation designed to get to know your family and help determine if your family will be a good fit for King Alfred’s)

Step 3: we will send out a reference form to your family’s pastor.

Step 4: Once we receive your pastor’s reference form back, we will inform you of our decision.

Step 5: After acceptance, mail your deposit ($300 per student - non-refundable, applied to tuition) to reserve your student’s seat. Once your deposit is received, your son or daughter officially has a seat at King Alfred’s this fall.

We’re currently accepting applications for this fall, so be sure to get yours in promptly to get the process started!

At King Alfred’s Classical Academy, we want to do everything we can to preserve the primacy of parents as the most influential teachers of their children and to safeguard the family from fragmentation (Deut 6:7, Eph 6:4). Modern schooling divorces a child from their families for 15,000 hours of their most formative years. It’s almost impossible to match that influence even with intentional parents and a rich church life.

That’s why we’ve consciously chosen to structure the school week around two days of in-classroom teaching. This school model is already seeing widespread use across the country. It combines the blessings of homeschooling while allowing skilled teachers to develop and deliver a consistent and integrated curriculum with a common goal. Capable and qualified teachers have enough contact time to deliver effective instruction, yet, students can still spend the greater part of their week being shaped by their own family–as God intended.

One of our goals at King Alfred’s is to help our students “walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God” (Col. 2:10)
We emphasize virtue, piety, and godliness and strive to help children have rightly ordered loves.

Interested in your student(s) attending King Alfred’s Classical Academy? Here are some dates for the upcoming school year to mark on your calendars!

+ First day of school - August 27
+Last day of school - May 22

+ Forms 1 & 2 meet Tuesday and Thursday, homeschool on M/W/F

+ Kindergarten meets for half days in the mornings on Tuesday and Thursday, and homeschool on M/W/F

+ Total 36 weeks

+ 2 weeks of Christmas break (Dec 21 - Jan 5)

+ 1 week of spring break (March 17 - 21)

Two major updates!
First, after weeks of searching we’re excited to share: We have a location!!

King Alfred’s Classical will be meeting at Cornerstone Baptist in Ankeny. Between the central location and wonderful facilities we couldn’t be happier with what the Lord has provided.

We are working to coordinate an info meeting later this month and will announce a date next week. We’re looking forward to meeting with you soon!

Second, an update on tuition costs:
Since our launch 5 weeks ago we have been growing in understanding of the financial situations of interested families. Our previous model started families at $4800 for their first child and $2400 for every child thereafter. Adjusting to make it more affordable earlier, the annual cost is now a flat $3,500 per student. $1,750 per semester. (Check our website for Kindergarten tuition details)

Please reach out with questions on tuition, our goal is to make this affordable for those who are interested. For those with large families we will eventually offer a discounted plan, but for now it is on a case by case basis.

Thank you all for your patience as we work through these details, it has been a joy and we are hopeful for what is to come!

We're still on hunt for a suitable meeting location! Does anybody have the means to buy this one-room school house in Ankeny?? (How awesome a location for a classical school! Check out the link if you're interested in the history.)

On a serious note though, we are making progress. We've had some encouraging conversations with local churches and expect to have a location secured in the next couple weeks.

Thank you for telling your communities about King Alfred's! We're humbled by the interest we've received thus far.
