Midwest Dance Collective A technique & curriculum based dance school focusing on wellness, development, & joy through movement

10/09/2026

Wednesday night was one of those nights that reminds you just how much heart, hard work, and love can go into building something meaningful.

For the second year in a row, Midwest Dance Collective was named Metro’s Best Dance Studio! What started as a dream has grown into something so much bigger than a dance studio. It’s a community, a family, and a place where I get to watch children (and adults!) grow in confidence, find their voices, build friendships, and discover the joy of dance. To our dancers, families, instructors, and everyone who believes in what we’re building at MDC — thank you. This recognition belongs to you, too. ✨

One of the most special parts of the evening was getting to celebrate alongside my sister, who was also recognized for her work with Grace Breast Imaging & Medical Spa. Watching her build her business while building mine has been such a meaningful part of this journey. Both of our businesses are still relatively young, and we know firsthand the sacrifices, long hours, faith, and heart it takes to turn a vision into something real.

To get to stand beside each other and celebrate these accomplishments together was incredibly special. There’s something beautiful about watching someone you love pour their heart into something that matters so deeply and seeing that hard work recognized.

I’m so grateful for this community, for the people who have supported us, and for the opportunity to keep doing work that we truly believe makes a difference. Our businesses seem very different at first glance, but they are both rooted in a deep devotion to leaving long-lasting positive impacts on our communities.

Two years in a row. So much to be thankful for. And so much more to come!

Join us tomorrow for Turning Pointe: A Dance For Survivors. I’ll be hosting an open level (beginner friendly) ballet class, followed by performances by MDC Ensemble members representing hope, resilience, and strength. We will also have the honor of hearing from breast cancer survivors in our community as they share their stories. And we can’t forget! Sweet treats from the incredible Sift + Sprinkle! 💖

🦩We’re proud to be part of the flock! 🦩

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Midwest Dance Collective is joining Grace Breast Imaging & Medical Spa and our community to FLAMINGLE — because awareness is just the beginning.

Being part of the flock means learning, talking, sharing, encouraging early detection, supporting those affected by breast cancer, and taking action.

We’re proud to stand alongside the incredible women and families impacted by breast cancer and to help spread a message that can truly make a difference.

So this October, FLAMINGLE with us! Wear your pink. Start the conversation. Encourage the women you love to prioritize their breast health. Share the message. Be part of a flock that believes no one should face breast cancer alone. 💗 And join us for Turning Pointe: A Dance For Survivors this Saturday, October 10th!

Lately, there have been so many little reasons to celebrate the women and things that shape me — Women’s Business Day, National Dance Day, and today, National Daughter Day. And as I look at this photo of my three girls in their little dance costumes, I realize how deeply all of those pieces of my life are intertwined. 🤍

My daughters are at the heart of everything that I do.
Being their mom has changed the way I lead Midwest Dance Collective. It shapes the way I teach, the way I make decisions, the way I care for our dancers, and the kind of environment I want to create within these four walls. Because when I look at the girls who walk through our doors, I see someone’s daughter. Someone’s whole heart. Someone who deserves to feel safe, known, encouraged, challenged, celebrated, and loved.

Motherhood has made me more intentional. More protective of childhood. More passionate about creating a studio culture where girls can grow into confident, kind, grounded young women — while still getting the beautiful, challenging, high-quality dance education they deserve.

And these three? They are my constant reminder of why it all matters. They are growing up alongside this studio. They have watched their mama build it, work it, love it, worry about it, celebrate it, and sometimes carry far more than I thought I could. They have been in the studio, backstage, at rehearsals, in costumes, and in the middle of the beautiful chaos that comes with building something you believe in. They are my inspiration in more ways than they will ever understand.

So today, on National Daughter Day, I’m celebrating them — and the incredible gift it is to be their mom.
And I’m celebrating the privilege of building a business that reflects the woman and mother I want to be.
Because at the end of the day, I’m not just building a dance studio, I’m building a place I would want my own daughters to grow up in. 🤍

Back to school and back to dance! 💓

There’s something so special about the little girl who walks into a dance studio with big dreams in her heart and a whole world of possibilities ahead of her.

Maybe she dreams of becoming a dance teacher. Maybe she’ll grow up to be a doctor, an artist, a mom, an engineer—or something she hasn’t even imagined yet. Somewhere along the way, dance is teaching her more than steps.

It’s teaching her to be brave when something feels hard. To keep trying when she doesn’t get it right the first time. To trust her body. To express herself. To work as a team. To celebrate someone else’s success. To stand a little taller and believe in herself a little more.
And sometimes, years later, that little girl becomes the teacher standing at the front of the room—passing those same lessons on to the next generation.

That’s the beautiful thing about dance. The impact reaches far beyond the studio.

So here’s to a new school year, a new dance season, and all the little girls dreaming about who they’ll become. ✨

We can’t wait to watch you grow, learn, dance, and become. Welcome back, dancers! 💗

Supporting the arts means showing up. 💗

We’re proud to cheer on our Midwest Dance Collective instructors as they perform at the Iowa Choreography Festival! We believe it’s important for our students to see their teachers continue creating, performing, and contributing to the vibrant Des Moines arts community.
When young dancers witness artists sharing their work, they see that dance is more than a class—it’s a lifelong passion, a way to connect, and a powerful form of expression.

If you have a dancer age 10+, we encourage you to take advantage of the incredible workshop opportunities offered throughout the festival. It’s a chance to learn from inspiring artists, explore new movement, and become part of Iowa’s thriving dance community.

Let’s continue showing up for the arts, supporting one another, and celebrating creativity together! ✨

👀 DID YOU KNOW?

Most elite level dancers don’t just train more—they train differently.

They seek out new instructors, experience different teaching styles, learn from artists actively working in the industry, and challenge themselves outside of their comfort zones. That’s where real growth happens.

That’s exactly what our Pre-Professional Summer Dance Intensive is all about.

Join us August 3–7 | 9:00 AM–3:00 PM for a week of immersive training with professional teaching artists from across the country who are currently working in the industry, alongside Midwest Dance Collective’s own faculty who have also led professional dance careers! We are excited to welcome Michael Munday and Samiyah Lynnice Burney! 🤗

Dancers will experience classes in:
Ballet
Jazz
Contemporary & Modern
Variations
Industry Q&A
…and so much more!

Whether you’re preparing for auditions, looking to elevate your technique, or simply ready to be inspired, this intensive is designed to help you take the next step in your training.
