PUC Scientist in Residence Dr. Scott Butterfield and students are using cutting-edge drone technology to monitor thousands of grebe nests at Clear Lake—combining conservation, AI, and hands-on research to protect one of California's most remarkable ecosystems.

With more than 7,500 nests documented, this groundbreaking project is already surpassing previous record counts while giving students real-world experience that makes a difference.
