πŸš” Community Connections at National Night Out!

What an outstanding turnout at W.G. Houston Middle School today as our community gathered for National Night Out! Lake Shore was thrilled to partner with the Town of Evans Police Department to host families, local first responders, and neighborhood partners for an evening packed with action and connections. Families got an up-close look at live vehicle extrication demos by local firefighters, saw fire truck aerial ladder operations, watched police dog drills, and took advantage of free car seat safety checks.

Between checking out emergency vehicles, families stayed entertained with bounce houses from WNY Bounce House, human-powered snow cones from Fun Buffalo, ice cream from Skiddly Pops, lawn games, airbrush tattoos, a dunk tank, live music by Gregg Sansone, and more!

Shoutout to the Evans Police Department, our local fire departments and first responders, Prevention Focus, and Citizens for Responsible Choices for bringing everyone together for such an incredible event on our school grounds.

Nights like this prove how strong our community is when we all come together!

🚌 Need Alternate Bus Pickup or Drop-Off for 2026–2027?

As we prepare for the 2026–2027 school year, the Lake Shore Transportation Department has updated its procedure for families who require non-standard pickup or drop-off arrangements for their students.

Please note that this form is strictly for families requesting alternate arrangements, such as childcare or split-schedule stops; if your student uses standard home-to-school transportation, no action is required. The updated form provides dedicated space for multiple alternate stops across the week to keep transit routines clear and consistent.

If your family needs alternate arrangements, please download the fillable PDF form on our website and return it to [email protected] or drop it off at the Transportation Office (8710 N Main Street) by September 1, 2026.

Mark your calendars for National Night Out on Tuesday, August 4th!

We are teaming up with the Town of Evans Police Department and Town of Evans Community Events to host the annual National Night Out on Tuesday, August 4, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM right here on the grounds of W.G. Houston Middle School.

This completely free family event is packed with activities, featuring live music by Gregg Sansone, a special magic performance with Ted Burzynski, an airbrush tattoo artist, lawn games, and a community dunk tank.

Local first responders will be joining us on-site with a direct, hands-on touch-a-truck experience, and safety professionals will be hosting an educational child safety car seat check. It is going to be an incredible evening of community connection, safety awareness, and neighborhood fun.

Invite your neighbors, and come share a great summer night with our Eagle community. πŸ’š

πŸ¦… Happy Independence Day, Lake Shore!

Today, we honor the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This is a moment to reflect on the principles of liberty and community that shape our nation and our classrooms. We hope our students, families, and staff take time to appreciate the past while looking forward to the future we are building together.

Wishing everyone in our Lake Shore community a safe and meaningful Independence Day celebration!

πŸŽ“ 8th Grade Moving Up Day Tomorrow! πŸ¦…

The big moment is nearly here for our William G. Houston Middle School eighth graders! Tomorrow morning, Thursday, June 25, our students will kick off their special milestone day with a celebratory pancake breakfast in the cafeteria starting right at 8:00 AM. Doors will open for families and ticketed guests at 8:45 AM, and everyone must be seated in the auditorium before the processional ceremony begins promptly at 9:00 AM.

We are incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication our eighth graders have demonstrated throughout their middle school journeys. Because the building will be operating on a normal academic schedule for our other grade levels, we kindly ask that all guests remain in the main lobby and auditorium areas to ensure a safe and secure environment.

For family members and friends cheering on their students from afar, the entire ceremony will be live-streamed directly at https://www.youtube.com/live/-H2VsufqYKA so you do not miss a single moment of this wonderful community celebration. πŸ’š

Celebrating Excellence and Legacy at W.G. Houston Middle School! πŸ¦…

Our sixth-grade students from Team Unity, Team Evolution, and the life skills class gathered this morning at William G. Houston Middle School for an incredible end-of-year awards assembly. It was a proud morning of celebrating hard work across the board as students stepped up to accept well-earned certificates ranging from Perfect Attendance and Classroom Leader to future mathematicians, scientists, writers, and historians. The natural, candid smiles in the room said it all as our school community came together to cheer on these young learners for their daily dedication, cover designs, health achievements, and outstanding team spirit.

The assembly was made even more special as we took time to honor retiring teacher Mr. Timothy Smelser for his 27 years of exceptional service to the Lake Shore Central School District. Mr. Smelser has made a lasting, grounded impact on countless students and colleagues throughout his career, and the room was filled with authentic gratitude as we wished him the very best in his upcoming retirement.

Check out the photos from today’s celebration to see our proud students and dedicated staff in action. Thank you to our entire community for supporting our Middle School students every step of the way! πŸ¦…πŸ’š

Moving On Up! πŸ¦…

Our fifth-grade students are taking an exciting step today as they tour the middle school in preparation for the upcoming school year! This traditional transition visit gives our incoming students a first look at their next academic home, helping them build confidence and comfort before classes begin.

Seeing the curiosity and community pride on their faces makes it clear that our Eagles are ready for tomorrow. A massive thank you to our incredible middle school staff and student leaders for welcoming our rising fifth-graders with open arms and showing them what it truly means to be part of the secondary family.

Let’s celebrate this major milestone for our students! πŸ’š
