We have added another cooker to the team please welcome our newest member.
Jaxon Davenport is a junior at ACS, where he has been a student since 7th grade. He brings real hands-on experience to the Good News BBQ Team, having grilled and smoked meats alongside his dad for most of his life at large events. Pulled pork and ribs are a couple of his favorites, and he is excited to put those skills to work for the team this season.
At ACS, Jaxon is a multi-sport athlete who plays basketball and football, and he currently holds the school record in both shot put and discus. Outside of athletics, he is deeply involved at The Christian Center in West Columbia, where he serves in his youth group. One of his favorite ways to serve is as part of the youth group’s social media team, and he also helps teach the 3-4 year old Sunday school class.
Jaxon has a servant’s heart and a strong work ethic, giving his best to whatever task is in front of him. He is eager to bring that same energy to the Good News BBQ Team and help the team succeed throughout the season.

The next team member to add to the list and also a Senior.
Senior Alivia Martin (17) is a lover of Jesus, a proud first-born daughter, and the best big sister around. She sets her goals high and works tirelessly to achieve her dreams. Alivia serves as Captain of her high school cheer team, President of the National Honor Society, and owner of her own photography business.
When she’s not leading on the sidelines or behind the camera, she enjoys spending time with her dog, Dr. Pepper, and finding fun wherever she goes. This marks Alivia’s second year on the team, where she serves as the Chicken Cook. She quickly learned that competitive barbecue takes hard work and dedication, and she wasn’t afraid to get her hands dirty. In her very first BBQ competition season, Alivia earned a Top 10 finish in the Texas High School State Cook-Off, competing against a field of more than 100 teams.

Let’s start the season with the kids a little about each team member. We will start with our Senior who has been on the team from the beginning.
Brooklyn McGough (16) is the only remaining member from the team’s original roster and is entering her third year of competition. Over the years, she has worked her way through the cooking categories, beginning with desserts and her award-winning bread pudding before earning her current role as the team’s Rib and Pork Cook.
As she begins her senior year, Brooklyn will balance an impressive list of commitments and accomplishments. She serves as Student Council President, Secretary of the National Honor Society, and is an ACS Fair Queen candidate. In addition, she will graduate high school with an Associate’s Degree already completed through her college coursework.
When she’s not leading at school or cooking with the team, Brooklyn enjoys serving God through her church, spending time with friends, and making a positive impact in her community. Her dedication, leadership, and work ethic make her an invaluable member of the team both on and off the barbecue trail.

The Good News BBQ team delivered outstanding results at the HS BBQ State Championship, showcasing remarkable teamwork and skillful turn-ins. While the judges' preferences leaned toward different flavors, Alivia Martin's impressive 9th-place finish with her chicken was a testament to the team's hard work. I couldn't be prouder of how this year's team performed, and I'm eagerly anticipating next season's opportunities. Big shout out to the Pierce family for their dedication and commitment helping the team performance highest level.
