Dear Patriot Families,
This is your Principal, Ashley Foisy, with a few important updates for next week! Our first full week of school has been a great one, and all of our K–5 students have officially entered the building. Thank you for helping us make the transition back to school so successful!
Monday, August 31st, is Independence Day for all students, including our kindergarteners! Families may drop students off through carpool, and students will walk independently to their classrooms. We know some students may not remember exactly where to go, and that is perfectly okay! Extra staff members will be available to greet students and help them find their way. This process will help our students become comfortable with our routines, build independence, and become more comfortable with our staff while knowing there is always someone available to help when needed.
As a friendly reminder, please help us keep our morning and afternoon carpool safe and running smoothly. In the morning, parents should not walk students to the front door unless they need to visit the front office. In the afternoon, parents may not walk up to check out students after 3:15 p.m. During carpool, please remain in your vehicle and allow our staff to assist students. If you need to buckle your child, please pull around to the designated cones so you can safely buckle your child without backing up traffic. Most importantly, please do not attempt to pass other vehicles by driving through an incoming lane. This creates a serious safety concern for our students, families, and staff members directing traffic. Our number one priority is the safety of everyone on campus, so please follow the directions of our carpool staff. We greatly appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work together to keep everyone safe!
On Thursday, September 3rd, our third graders will take the Beginning-of-Grade 3 assessment. A letter with additional information was included in their Beginning-of-Year folder.
Here is a note from our amazing PTA: If you are hoping for a different experience than the front carpool line, you can skip the line and become a VIP! Please support our PTA fundraiser by purchasing raffle tickets for a chance to win a pass that allows you to use the bus parking lot for student drop-off and pick-up during the fall semester. Ticket sales close Thursday, September 3rd, at 6:00 p.m., and winners will be contacted by phone that evening. A flyer with a QR code was sent home with students in this week’s Tuesday folder, and you can also visit our MCES PTA page for more information.
During Orientation, you received a hard copy of our Parent Calendar for the first semester. This calendar includes important dates for the entire school, as well as PTA events. If a grade level has a specific activity or event, teachers will communicate that information separately. If you did not receive a calendar, please reach out directly to your child's teacher.
Thank you for another wonderful week, Patriot Families! We are so excited about the year ahead and grateful for your continued support as we build strong routines and a strong school community. Have a wonderful weekend, and we will see you on Monday!

A HUGE thank you to the Burlow family for their incredibly generous donation of school supplies! 📚✏️🎒

While the Burlow family does not have students at McGee’s Crossroads Elementary, they chose to support our school simply because they believe in our students and our community. That kind of generosity means so much!

Good evening, Patriot Families!
This is your principal, Ashley Foisy, with a few important reminders as we wrap up our first two days of school.
First, thank you for an incredible start to the school year! It has been wonderful having our students back in the building.
Please remember to be patient during morning and afternoon carpool. Our top priority is keeping students, staff, and families safe. When entering or leaving campus, please use the lane directed by our staff and do not attempt to pass cars using the center lane. This creates traffic congestion and can be dangerous. Also, please make sure your carpool tag is clearly visible. This allows us to call your child’s name quickly without needing additional verification from the office.
For families who have submitted a bus request, those requests have been entered into the system, and Johnston County Transportation will assign routes as quickly as possible. Please understand that bus transportation is not guaranteed during the first week of school. Until you receive notification of a bus assignment, your child will need to be a car rider. Assignments can take approximately 7 to 10 days to process. Once your child is assigned to a route, you will be notified. Please also be prepared for buses to run behind schedule during the first few weeks as routes and routines are established.
Beginning tomorrow, Wednesday, August 26th, we will celebrate “Independence Day” for our first through fifth grade students! Starting tomorrow, students in grades 1 through 5 will begin walking to their classrooms independently and will continue this routine throughout the school year. Staff members at the front entrance will help us maintain this procedure, so please be understanding if they remind you that students need to walk to class on their own. Please plan to drop your child off through carpool rather than walking them into the building.
Tomorrow through Friday, we will also welcome our kindergarten students and families to campus. Half of our kindergarten students will attend Wednesday, the other half will attend Thursday, and all kindergarten students will begin attending on Friday. Please expect some delays as our youngest Patriots and their families learn our arrival and dismissal procedures.
Finally, please check your child’s communication folder. Today is our first Tuesday folder of the school year, and each week your child’s teacher will send home important information. This week’s folder includes your child’s inclement weather packet. Please keep this packet in a safe place in case we experience inclement weather during the school year. If you have any questions, please reach out directly to your child’s teacher.
Again, thank you for helping us have such an incredible start to the school year. We appreciate your patience, flexibility, and partnership. Have a wonderful evening, Patriots!

🎉 TOMORROW’S THE DAY, PATRIOTS! ❤️💙

The halls are ready, our teachers are ready, and we are SO ready to welcome our 1st - 5th grade Patriots back tomorrow for an amazing school year! 📚✨

And then on Wednesday, we get to welcome our Kindergarten Patriots! We can’t wait to see all of our students and kick off another incredible year together!

Let’s make it a GREAT first week, McGee’s!

08/21/2026

Good Evening, Patriot Families!

This is Principal Ashley Foisy with important information and reminders as we prepare for our first day of school on Monday, August 24th.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Open House! We appreciate your flexibility and understanding as we adjusted our schedule due to the unexpected power outage. It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces in our building!

FIRST DAY – MONDAY, AUGUST 24TH
Doors open at 8:30 a.m., and the tardy bell rings at 8:55 a.m. On the first day, families may park and walk their child to their classroom door to wish them a great first day. All parents and visitors must enter through the Front Entrance and go through the Evolve Weapons Detection System.

Teachers will be busy welcoming students and beginning the school day. They will be happy to say hello but will not be able to have extended conversations. Please save longer conversations for a phone call, email, or scheduled conference.

INDEPENDENCE DAY – GRADES 1–5
Beginning Wednesday, August 28th, students in grades 1–5 will begin walking to their classrooms independently and will continue doing so throughout the school year. Staff members will help maintain this procedure, so please be understanding if they remind you that students need to walk to class on their own.

BUS RIDERS
If you requested transportation at Open House but did not receive a bus pass, your request has been entered into the system. Johnston County Transportation will assign routes as quickly as possible. Please understand that a bus assignment is not guaranteed during the first week. Until you receive notification of a bus assignment, your child will need to be a car rider. Once routes are assigned, you will be notified. Please also expect possible bus delays during the first few weeks as routes and routines are established.

CAR RIDERS
Please exercise patience and caution in our car rider lines. Your car rider tag must hang from your rearview mirror and remain there until your child is safely loaded into your vehicle. For everyone's safety, please remain in your vehicle while in the car rider line.

If you do not have your car rider tag, you will be asked to park and enter the building with identification before your child can be released. This is an important safety procedure.

All vehicles entering the carpool line must enter from Highway 210. Please do not enter from Highway 50. Entering from Highway 50 creates a safety concern in our parking lot. Staff will direct anyone entering from Highway 50 to turn around and use the Highway 210 entrance.

We know our carpool process may look unusual, especially for new families. Because of our location between Highways 210 and 50, these procedures are designed to keep traffic moving and prevent backups onto the highways. A video explaining our carpool procedures will be posted on our school page and ClassDojo School Story.

Please do not become frustrated with staff members enforcing these procedures. We are working together to keep our students, families, and staff safe.

Parents may not walk to the car rider area with a car rider sign and have their child called. If you need to check your child out before 3:15 p.m., please follow our regular early checkout procedures through the Front Office. If you are not checking your child out before 3:15 p.m., you must use the car rider line. We encourage families to keep students at school for the full instructional day whenever possible, as instruction continues until the final bell at 3:45 p.m.

MIDDLE SCHOOL SIBLING WALKERS
Families requesting participation in the Middle School Sibling Walker program were required to complete a Google Form and meet specific criteria. Parent tags will be used this year for safety purposes.

If your child qualified and you did not pick up your tag at Open House, you may pick it up Monday. Parents must wait on the grass when students cross the crosswalk and must have the tag matching their child. Without the appropriate tag, your child will not be released and you will need to enter the building and show identification.

The Sibling Walker program is a privilege, and we appreciate your help following these procedures to keep everyone safe.

BREAKFAST & LUNCH
We are excited to share that breakfast and lunch are free for all students again this year! Students do not need to bring money for breakfast or lunch. Families may add money to their child's account if they would like their child to purchase extra snacks or ice cream.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and support as we begin a new school year. The first few days can be busy as we establish routines, and we truly appreciate your partnership in making the transition safe and smooth.

We cannot wait to see all of our Patriot smiles on Monday! Have a wonderful weekend!

🚗 Carpool Procedures & Reminders for the 2026–2027 School Year 🚗

Patriot Families, as we prepare for the first day of school on Monday, please take a few minutes to review our carpool procedures, rules, and reminders. We have also attached a helpful video created by the NC Department of Transportation that demonstrates the carpool system. While the video references the 2025–2026 school year, the same carpool system and procedures will be used this year.

Please be patient with us and with one another as we begin the school year. Expect delays in the carpool line during the first few weeks as students, families, and staff learn and become comfortable with the system. Our top priority is always the safety of our students and staff, so we appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to make arrival and dismissal as smooth and efficient as possible.

📌 A few important reminders before Monday:

-Carpool tags must be clearly displayed in your vehicle during carpool. Having your tag visible helps us quickly identify students and will make the process faster and more efficient.
- If you need a carpool tag, please contact your child’s teacher.
- Watch the attached DOT carpool video. While it says 2025–2026, the same system applies this school year.
- Review the attached carpool rules and reminders.
- Make sure anyone who may be picking up your child is familiar with our procedures.
- Plan for extra time during the first few weeks as we all learn the system.

Thank you for your patience, flexibility, and partnership as we work together to make carpool safe, smooth, and efficient for everyone. We are excited to welcome our Patriots on Monday!
