Hello, Staff and Familes, this is Tom Hoskins, Superintendent for Vallecito Union School District. Due to the Airola Fire on Parrotts Ferry Road, all schools in Vallecito Union School District will be closed today, Thursday, August 26th, per the recommendation by the Office of Emergency Services (OES) based on an abundance of caution due to the erratic fire behavior this season. Friday, August 27th was already scheduled as a not student day intended for staff development. We ask that families be prepared and ready in case conditions change quickly and further evacuations are mandated. At this time we plan on schools re-opening Monday, Aug. 30th. The District will continue to be in regular contact with OES and emergency responders to monitor the situation and we will communicate to all of our families with updates as they are available. Please continue to stay safe. Thank you.

Airola Fire Update

Good evening -

Superintendent Hoskins has received direction from our county Office of Emergency Services (OES) to have Albert Michelson Elementary closed tomorrow, August 26, due to the proximity of the fire. Avery Middle School and Hazel Fischer Elementary can remain open at this time. We will continue to monitor the situation and expect to have an update from OES tomorrow morning.

Stay safe and stay tuned for updates as the situation progresses. You can also check the CalFire website for updates.

Communication from Superintendent Frost

December 30, 2020

Dear Vallecito Community,

I hope you and your family had a happy and healthy holiday. I think we will all be excited to see 2020 come to a close and look forward to a return to a healthy 2021.

We are looking forward to returning students to in-person instruction on Monday, January 4th. Please send your elementary student back to school with their computer/iPad device and charging cord. We will continue to monitor conditions within the classroom community and respond to any reported infections, as directed by the nursing staff in conjunction with Public Health staff guidance.

We do continue to ask your cooperation with the following:
Keep your student home if they have any signs of illness.
Please respond to our nursing staff calls so we can work with you to determine next steps.
Please send your student to school with a mask and wear a mask and practice distancing (including not having children play together during pickup).
Please minimize your student’s use of the bus as much as possible, so we can minimize contact across the cohorts.

We know these guidelines are tiresome and restrictive, but again, your cooperation allows us to continue to offer safe and in-person daily learning for our VUSD students.

Looking forward to seeing students back to school on January 4, 2021!

Sincerely,

James L. Frost
Superintendent
