For the last 25 years, the family and friends of Teddy Maloney ’88 have gathered to play golf and remember Teddy. The Big Dog Classic has evolved into a powerful movement that both honors Teddy’s legacy as a father, son, friend, and alum of Proctor, and raises money for an endowed scholarship at Proctor. This year’s turnout was amazing, and we are so grateful to everyone who makes The Big Dog Classic possible! THE BIG DOG CLASSIC

Night after night, walking slowly behind a very short dog, I get to see Proctor as it really is. There is nothing polished about it, rather it is the ordinary, unscripted moments that reveal who we really are. I think that what I see most clearly is teenagers who feel at home, who know they belong, and who have learned to care for this place and for one another. Many schools have community service requirements for graduation. At Proctor, we have intentionally chosen not to, instead providing regular opportunities for our students to engage with local service opportunities. Over the last week alone, students have helped with pumpkin decorating at the Touch-a-Truck event in town, helped pack hygiene bags for a local non-profit, NH ReFresh, and offered Tech Help at the Andover Hub for local seniors. We love seeing our students find opportunities they are passionate about and then jumping in with two feet to making a difference in the world.

Today, on Indigenous Peoples Day, we pause to recognize the Abenaki people who lived on this beautiful land before European settlers colonized it. We look out over Andover and honor those who first called this valley home.

The Abenaki, meaning People of the Dawn, now comprise only .1% of New Hampshire’s population. Their story mirrors that of so many native people around the country and is one of horrifying eugenics programs, displacement, and a constant push by colonists to assimilate. May this generation and those to come continue to honor and recognize those whose land we now occupy.

Members of Proctor’s theater department had the amazing opportunity to visit The HOP at Dartmouth College on Friday. They met the crew and choreographer behind Naomi Timere and had the chance to speak with the dancers after their performance. Thank you Dartmouth and Proctor’s theater director, Amy, for providing this incredible opportunity for our students. Proctor Academy Theater Dept.
