Abbot Rabbits look like they had a fabulous mini-reunion in NYC this past weekend! Many photos, lots of activities and great pictures of classmates from the '70s. . . Way to party, Ladies!

PBS is running a 3-part program called, "Makers: Women Who Made America" -- a story about the beginnings and history of what we now call the Women's Movement in the US. It is a reminder to us that many strong-minded women took a stand for equality that started with race and moved into gender. The documentary includes interviews and old films of the movement thought leaders while it explores the issues that united us as well as divided us. It elucidates why some of our efforts failed and how our broad spectrum issues made us easy to divide and defeat.

It is a great reminder of the strides we have made -- and a great reminder that there is more we need to do. If women's issues are going to take the podium at our national political conventions, now is the time to be in touch with our elected officials. One terrific way to participate at a very direct level is to be elected a delegate to the local, regional or state party convention. It is a major eye-opener!

Work with people like Maine's Olympia Snow, who has written a book on how to fix the logjam in Congress and has established "Olympia's List", not unlike Emily's List, to gather support for women candidates at all levels of government,

It's time . . . if not you, who? If not now, when?

The latest issue of the Andover Bulletin has an interesting collection of stories and personal recollections about the merger of Abbot and Andover. We didn't want it; they didn't want it, but Headmaster Don Gordon did, and with friend PA Headmaster Kemper, they made it happen. Take a look at your Bulletin, if it has arrived at your house, or take a look at the stories and photos online.

The 50th Reunion of the Class of 1962 revealed to us that we had, in fact, grown up to be the women of promise we had known those many years ago. This gathering wasn't just reminiscing -- many of our discussions were on issues of importance to us: education, healthcare, GLBT progress (or lack thereof), children (yes, we shared grandkids pics!), local and national elections, retirement -- or not, work and leisure.

The 1962 Reunion Yearbook was a treasure trove of stories by amazing women about their lives. It turns out that many of us are exactly who we were in the 60's, but older and better at it.

Thanks to everyone who came; we missed the ones who didn't, mourned the ones who had left us and celebrated -- and bemoaned -- a shared experience none of us will ever forget. Here's to the next reunion!

The Abbot Academy Scholarship Fund is dedicated to scholarship aid to female students. When you make a gift to PA, please let them know that you support education of women leaders. The Abbot Campus Fund supports the maintenance of the Abbot Academy Campus.

When you make a gift to the Mary Hinckley Crane Fund, it lets her four daughters know how greatly you admired Mrs. Crane and wish to celebrate her leadership as our Headmistress. You may also make a gift to the Abbot Academy Scholarship Fund in Mrs. Crane's name, remembering her dedication to girls' education.

Looking forward to our 50th Reunion. It hardly seems that long ago, but I do laugh when it takes 3 or 4 of us to remember with any certainty things that happened when we were there at Abbot.

It is grand to hear the voices of old friends, however, and get the news on how different our lives are. What we have experienced over the years reinforces my belief that we were made for great things.

If you are attending an Abbot Reunion soon -- or just like the idea of keeping the Abbot spirit alive -- consider wearing an Abbot shirt. We have them, in a light blue with white logo (like the one pictured here), and the Class of 1962 will be wearing our own colors to our reunion proudly.
