As we settle into the school year, there is a lot happening across GLTS, from building strong professional habits to preparing seniors for life after graduation.

In our recent grade-level assemblies, Mr. Jackson met with all four classes to talk about expectations and goals for the year ahead. A key focus was building the daily habits of a professional—being present, arriving on time, and being ready to learn by 7:42 AM. These expectations help students develop the consistency, responsibility, and professionalism that will serve them both at GLTS and in their future careers.

For our seniors and their families, the college and career planning process is also getting underway, with financial aid applications opening October 1. Reggie’s Locker, our GLTS food pantry, is now available to students and families who need access to food, hygiene products, cleaning supplies, or clothing. Families can also find important upcoming dates, including senior cap and gown ordering and picture re-take day.

Our students continue to benefit from opportunities that connect their classroom experiences with college and career pathways. Health Assisting and Medical Assisting students in grades 11 and 12 are making use of the simulation labs at Northern Essex Community College, where they can build their clinical skills in a state-of-the-art learning environment.

A big shoutout to GLTS alumna Leticia Ferrari, Class of 2023! 🎓

A former GLTS Carpentry student, Leticia is now a senior at Massachusetts Maritime Academy, where she is studying International Maritime Business with a concentration in Project Management.

During her time at Mass Maritime, Leticia has taken on a number of leadership roles. She is the Vice President of the Women in Business Club and is the President of The Hidden Opponent chapter on campus.

Her education has also given her the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the construction industry, including a co-op with Dellbrook | JKS, where she worked in the field and gained experience in project management and construction operations.

It’s great to see a former GLTS Carpentry student continuing to build on her education, take on leadership opportunities, and prepare for a career in the construction and project management fields.

We’re so proud of you Leticia! Keep building your future!

GLTS invites parents and caregivers to Back to School Night on Thursday, September 17th. Join us for an evening to meet your student’s teachers and follow their class schedule. The event will begin promptly at 6:00 PM.

Parking will be available in the back of the school.

Students should have created their Back to School Night schedule during WIN block on September 8th and 10th to give to their parents or caregivers for the evening.

All classes will meet for 10 minutes, and shop classes will meet for 15 minutes.

Grade 9 caregivers will attend a presentation in the PAC in lieu of attending their student’s shop class.

What a fantastic first week it has been! The hallways and classrooms are alive with energy once again, and we are thrilled to have everyone back on campus. These opening days have been all about welcoming our students back, getting settled into our daily routines, and laying the groundwork for a strong year ahead.

Establishing these foundational habits early is crucial as we begin the new school year. In our next update on September 20th, we look forward to sharing more about our upcoming grade-level assemblies and the core themes we will be discussing with our students.

In the meantime, this issue includes information about our upcoming events, virtual financial aid nights, CTE highlights, athletic schedules, and more.

Edgar Martinez, valedictorian and class president of the GLTS Class of 2023, was a student in our Dental Assisting program, where his passion for dentistry helped set him on an incredible path.

After graduating from GLTS, Edgar was accepted into the 7-year direct dental program at the University of Pennsylvania, an Ivy League university. He also enlisted in the U.S. Army and will become an officer after graduation.

His hard work and dedication continue to pay off. This week marked Edgar’s first day of dental school as a member of the Class of 2030!

This is an incredible accomplishment for Edgar and a great example of where a CTE education can take our students. His journey from the Dental program at GLTS to dental school at the University of Pennsylvania is one we’re proud to celebrate and an inspiring example of the opportunities available through our CTE programs.

Congratulations, Edgar! We’re excited to see where your journey takes you!
