Last week, I had the privilege of hearing Dr. Bruce D. Perry, M.D., Ph.D give a talk titled Conversations on Trauma, Resilience , and Healing. This led me to one of his books, What Happened to You?: Conversations on Trauma, Resilience, and Healing.

As I think of you all making your way in the world, some starting families, some entering the teaching profession, some struggling to find passion and purpose, I wanted to share this with you.

There is power in knowledge and the circumstances you grew up in do not have to dictate who you become. It all begins with understanding and wanting a different future for yourself and the people in your life. Hugs to you all! 💕

🚨 URGENT: A new law passed in the state budget (House Bill 96) includes a harmful, expensive, and unnecessary requirement that public libraries move any materials related to sexual orientation or gender identity to areas that are not primarily visible to anyone under 18.

We already offer tools like kid’s library cards and parental controls to help families make informed choices.

This new law isn’t needed, and diverts resources away from the services you rely on.

Why does this matter?

It limits your freedom to choose what’s right for your family.
It’s expensive. Reclassifying books, redesigning spaces, retraining staff and buying new equipment will cost millions of dollars. The budget does not provide funding for this work.

In fact, it cuts funding. Essential programs and services could be reduced to pay for this policy.

It raises serious legal concerns about censorship and access to information. It’s vague and confusing, making it hard for libraries to apply the law fairly or consistently.

This was not in Governor Mike DeWine’s plan, but he has the power to stop it.

Call and email the Governor today and respectfully urge him to veto this provision related to library materials.
