In Memory of Our Dear Colleague, Peter R. Beaven
It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of our dear colleague and friend, Peter R. Beaven, who passed away unexpectedly on August 7, 2026, at the age of 82.
Peter dedicated his life to education and to helping young people reach their full potential. For 50 years, through Beaven & Associates in Andover, he guided thousands of students toward some of the most prestigious colleges and universities in the United States. He was also the author of 17 books on English vocabulary, structure, and usage.
Peter’s work through Passport Exchange created another special legacy—bringing European students and American families together and opening doors to new countries, languages, histories, cultures, and ways of life.
As one former host, Robert H., beautifully expressed:
“Hosting a student began a life-long friendship that opened the door to another country, landscape, language, history, way of thinking and way of life.”
That spirit captured so much of what Peter believed in: that education goes far beyond the classroom, and that bringing people from different countries and cultures together can create friendships and understanding that last a lifetime.
Peter’s greatest legacy was the countless lives he touched, the minds he challenged, and the confidence he inspired. We will remember him for his remarkable knowledge, curiosity, kindness, love of learning, and passion for life.
Our heartfelt condolences go to Peter’s sisters, family, friends, students, host families, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Rest in peace, Peter. Your legacy will live on in the many lives you touched and the doors you opened. You will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
