Anderson Education Foundation The Anderson Education Foundation provides resources for educators to enrich and expand educational opportunities for students in Anderson Community Schools.

The Anderson Education Foundation has nurtured a legacy for learning in Anderson's public schools. Donors providing financial support and volunteers providing hands-on help have enabled AEF to send more than $400,000 into Anderson Community Schools classrooms for educational projects developed by ACS teachers and students.

Come celebrate with us! Every year we host our Hall of Fame to uplift role models that have come from ACS schools while raising money to give back to Anderson Community Schools.

Today we are featuring: Brooks Townsend. Local soap box derby champion (1955) to National derby champion (1957,1959).
Engineered starting devices for Soap Box derby races and Olympic bobsled designs (still used all over the world). Worked at GM as a Chief Industrial Engineer, ran the soapbox derby locally for many years. Derby Downs off Madison Ave. has been renamed Townsend Hill in honor of Brooks’ family.

Special thanks to Jason Williamson, one of our 2026 Hall of Fame Inductees! AEF has been very busy with him the last two days showing him around two our schools as we announce the first ever “It’s OK to Dream Big” scholarship. He and his wife, Edna are offering an ACS student (6th-12th grade) an opportunity to travel to space camp completely free of cost next summer. The competition is currently open until January and we are excited to hear more from him about his mission next summer as well as celebrating and honoring him next month at Hall of Fame on October 24. If you would like to celebrate with us, please start purchasing your tickets now!
