Volleyball Upsets (RV) Baldwin Wallace, Tops Olivet

The Anderson University volleyball team upset Baldwin Wallace University and topped The University of Olivet during the Albion-Olivet Tournament on Saturday in Albion, Mich.

Anderson (10-6) completed the reverse sweep against Baldwin Wallace (13-2). After dropping the first two sets to the Yellow Jackets by scores of 23-25 and 20-25, the Ravens captured the last three sets by scores of 25-21, 25-13, 15-12. Baldwin Wallace is receiving votes in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) NCAA D-III poll.

"This was a great weekend for us as we prepare to open up conference play this week," Coach Hannah Marshall said. "We faced some tough competition and I was thrilled to see us start to believe in ourselves and our potential! I'm super proud of my group and I'm looking forward to getting in the gym to prepare for the conference opener."

The Ravens put together a .125 hitting percentage, while the Yellow Jackets turned in a .115 hitting percentage.

Lacy Rathbun powered Anderson with 21 kills and 16 digs. Jayda Lanham delivered 13 kills, 22 digs and two service aces.

Blythe Young dished out 35 assists while contributing 19 digs and three blocks. Amy Nye scattered 21 digs, while Taylor Bock recorded seven blocks and nine digs. Ellie Wilson added 11 kills.

Anderson then swept Olivet (3-13) by a score of 25-13, 25-23, 25-18. The Ravens posted a .196 hitting percentage while holding the Comets to a .052 hitting percentage.

Rathbun smashed 15 kills behind a .278 hitting percentage while adding 12 digs and two blocks. Wilson provided 10 kills behind a .429 hitting percentage, while Bock turned in seven kills behind a .462 hitting percentage to go along with three blocks and five digs.

Nye collected 19 digs, while Young dished out 28 assists. Isabella Notarberardino added five digs.

Anderson challenges Earlham College (5-11, 0-0) to open Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. in Richmond.
