The Department of Modern Foreign Languages and Cultures at Anderson University offers rigorous, comprehensive majors in Spanish, as well as offerings in French and German. A major in Spanish at AU offers students a triple focus in language, culture, and literature and, through the nurturing of both greater communicative proficiency and increased cross-cultural maturity, prepares them to serve in t
he church and society in multiple professions and callings, both at home and abroad. Foreign language majors also have the opportunity to further specialize through internships (both local and while studying abroad) and, in Spanish, to take further coursework specific to a number of professional areas: Education, Business, Health Care, Social Work, Criminal Justice, and Ministry. Majors in Spanish and Minors in French study abroad earning anywhere from 6 to 16+ academic credits while traveling, living, learning and growing in another country. Furthermore, interested students have the opportunity to take Tri-S trips, serve in the local community, apply for student job opportunities within the department or in the language lab, apply for membership in our active Alpha Mu Gamma chapter (the national collegiate foreign language honor society), and to participate in language immersion events, foreign language chapels, and other similar department-sponsored activities.
