This week, students in Mrs. Elkins’ second grade classroom read the informational text, "Being a Good Citizen." Students identified the author’s purpose and the central idea. During the discussion of the text, students identified ways to be good citizens of their schools and communities, and they asked if they could write a note to Mr. Rash welcoming him to our school as an act of kindness. Students presented these notes and pictures to Mr. Rash this morning during his morning drop in. Welcome to McLees Mr. Rash!

🚀 McLees Students Are Off to a Stellar Start in Math! ⭐️

Students at McLees are off to a stellar start in math this school year! We love seeing our students engaged, collaborating, and building strong math skills through hands-on learning. 🌟📚

🔢 Third Grade: Students in Mrs. Traynum’s classroom are learning and reinforcing their place value skills during center rotations. Students rotate through small-group instruction, i-Ready, and fun place value games as they strengthen their understanding and math fluency.

Standard: 3.NR.1.1 Read, write, and represent whole numbers through the thousands period (0 to 999,999) on a number line and in standard form, base ten language, word form, and equations in expanded form.

📐 Fifth Grade: Students in Mr. Green’s classroom are using manipulatives to explore the meaning of area. After being presented with a problem, students used square tiles to model their thinking and prove their answers.

5.MGSR.1.1 Solve problems involving area and perimeter of composite figures by decomposing with rectangles.

🌟 Celebrating Some Incredible SC Ready Achievements! 🌟

We are incredibly proud to celebrate three of our students who earned PERFECT scores on the 2026 SC Ready State Assessment! 🎉📚⭐

These students achieved this amazing accomplishment while in 4th grade last year and are now proudly starting their 5th-grade year:

🏆 Jonathan Shelby— Perfect Score in ELA
🏆 Aiden Wright — Perfect Scores in ELA AND Math
🏆 Sky'elle Lee — Perfect Score in Math

A perfect score on the SC Ready is an extraordinary accomplishment and a true reflection of their hard work, dedication, perseverance, and commitment to learning. We are so proud of each of you and all that you have accomplished!

🌟 **Parent Orientation Night is Coming!** 🌟

We are excited to welcome our McLees families for Parent Orientation Night on Tuesday, September 1! 💙

Parents may choose to attend one of two sessions with their child’s teacher:
📚 **5:30–6:00 PM**
📚 **6:00–6:30 PM**

This is a wonderful opportunity to meet your child’s teacher, learn more about the school year, and get important information to help make this year a successful one!

🍽️ **Bonus:** Families will receive a **to-go dinner plate** as they leave!

💻 **NEW! Parent Portal Sign-Up Station**
We will also have a station in the **front office** for parents who would like to create their **PowerSchool Parent Portal** account. Chromebooks will be available to make the sign-up process easy and convenient while you are here. **Parents will need to bring their driver’s license** to complete the account setup.

Today, Giving Hope Fellowship Church blessed McLees Elementary with boxes and boxes of school supplies generously collected by their amazing congregation. ✏️📚🎒

Our third graders are diving into our HMH curriculum and learning their vocabulary words and morphology. To apply to real life, they had a mismatch Friday. Students and teachers (and even Mr. Rash) dressed in clashing colors and mismatched socks.

Our theme this year at McLees Elementary is “Reach for the Stars…Learn Without Limits!” 🌟📚 And today, we are already reaching for the stars in a BIG way!

A HUGE thank-you to Mrs. Green’s family for delivering an amazing ROCKET SHIP to McLees Elementary! 🚀❤️ We are so excited to see how this special addition helps bring our school theme to life and reminds our students that the sky is truly the limit!

A special shout-out to Mrs. Green’s daddy, who isn’t pictured but also played an important part in making this rocket delivery possible! We appreciate you!
