Join us for this weeks naturalist programming schedule!

Thursday, August 27
🌑8:30PM – Full Moon Hike –Join the Naturalist on the Visitor Center lawn to enjoy a 1-hour, moderate hike lit by the light of the August full moon. Learn about the cultural and historic names given to this moon cycle and more. Hike may involve stairs or rough terrain. Red-light flashlights only, please. Limited supply of flashlights available to borrow courtesy of the Friends of Mounds State Park.

🌑9:30PM – Lunar Eclipse Viewing – Finished with the Full Moon Hike? The fun isn’t over yet! Join the Muncie Astronomy Club at the old pool house lawn to view the lunar eclipse! The club will have telescopes set up to enhance your view of the celestial event.

🥾11AM – Mystery of the Mounds Hike - Mounds State Park has a rich history spanning over two thousand years. Meet the Naturalist on the Visitor Center Porch for a 1-hour easy hike to the Great Mound to learn about the Adena-Hopewell peoples and the mounds they built, the amusement park that once stood on park grounds, the Bronnenberg family, and more.

Saturday, August 29
🍃1PM – Tree Trail Hike – Meet the Naturalist on the front porch of the Visitor Center for a 1-hour moderate hike along the park’s Tree Trail – Trail 1B. Learn the names of common trees, the features used to identify them, and enjoy the trail’s scenic views.

🦉8PM – Owl Prowl – Whoooo cooks for you? Whooo cooks for you all? Learn all about the apex predators of the nighttime sky, listen for their calls, and hike a twilit trail to try to find them in the wild. Meet the Naturalist outside the Visitor Center for this 1-hour moderate hike. Red-light flashlights only, please! Limited supply available to borrow courtesy of the Friends of Mounds State Park.

Sunday, August 30
🍂1PM – Atlatl Throwing - Come to the Visitor Center lawn to take aim with an atlatl, a historic spear-throwing device used by the peoples who built the mounds. Atlatl range will be open from 1-2 P.M.
