Congratulations, Blake!

Meet 2027 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship finalist Blake Simmons of Anderson High School!

Blake pairs exceptional academic achievement with service shaped by his own life experiences. In addition to serving as treasurer of Anderson High School's National Honor Society, he has volunteered extensively as an advocate for Breakthrough T1D/JDRF, helping raise funds for research and supporting those who are learning to navigate a Type 1 diabetes diagnosis. He has also put his interest in technology to work repairing devices through AHS's Chrome Room.

Blake's own experiences helped spark his interest in science and medicine. He plans to study biochemistry at IU Indianapolis and hopes to pursue medicine, potentially as a cardiologist or endocrinologist. His goal is not only to care for patients, but also to help improve how people facing serious health conditions are supported and treated.

The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship (LECS), administered locally by the Madison County Community Foundation, provides full tuition, required fees, and up to $900 annually for required books and equipment for up to eight semesters at an eligible Indiana college or university.

Two Madison County students will be selected as 2027 Lilly Endowment Community Scholars and announced in December. Each finalist not selected as a Lilly Scholar will receive a $1,000 scholarship from the Madison County Community Foundation.

The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship (LECS) is one of Indiana's most prestigious scholarship opportunities. Administered locally by the Madison County Community Foundation as part of the statewide Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program, two Madison County students are selected each year to receive this award.

Recipients receive full tuition for up to eight semesters, required fees, and a special allocation of up to $900 annually for required books and equipment while pursuing a full-time bachelor's degree at an eligible Indiana public or private nonprofit college or university.

The two recipients will be announced in December. As part of our commitment to recognizing exceptional students, each Madison County finalist who is not selected as a Lilly Endowment Community Scholar receives a $1,000 scholarship from the Madison County Community Foundation.

LifeSmart Youth is restarting its Youth Advisory Council (YAC) and is looking for students who want to share their ideas, perspectives, and experiences while making a difference in their community.

The Youth Advisory Council is open to students in grades 7–12, and no previous leadership or advocacy experience is required! This could be a great opportunity for AHS students interested in community involvement, health and wellness, advocacy, leadership, civic engagement, or simply having a voice in issues that affect young people.

YAC is looking for students who are willing to learn, get involved, and bring their own unique perspective to the group. Meetings and participation opportunities may be available in person and/or virtually.

Interested AHS students are encouraged to check out the attached flyer for more information about expectations, commitments, incentives, and how to get involved.

Good evening, Anderson High School families! As a reminder, Anderson Community School Corporation is on Fall Break, and we look forward to students returning on Monday, October 19th.

We also want to share a schedule change for Thursday, October 22, 2026. Students in 10th and 11th grades will be taking the PSAT at school that day, while students in grades 9 and 12 will have an asynchronous e-learning day.

If you have a student in grades 10 or 11, please check ParentSquare later this week for information on student attendance and dismissal.

We are incredibly proud to celebrate AHS student Kamar’a Murphy, the October recipient of the Minority Health Coalition of Madison County's Making a Difference Youth Award!

Kamar’a is the first Anderson High School student to receive this monthly award, which recognizes young people who are making a positive difference in their school and community. With straight A’s, two jobs, a positive attitude, and a heart for helping others, Kamar’a is an outstanding example of what it means to work hard, lead with kindness, and make a difference.

Congratulations, Kamar’a! We are so proud to have you representing Anderson High School!

A quick note: College Goal Sunday is now just four days away! We want to make sure everyone knows about this completely free opportunity for expert filing help across Indiana.

College Goal Sunday is 2pm local time on October 4th at 35 locations across the state. Please visit CollegeGoalSunday.org for FAFSA filing and event resources, including locations near you and items to help you get organized and ready for the event. College Goal Sunday is once again having a drawing for 5 scholarships worth $1,000 each for students who attend CGS and fill out a survey on October 4th!

This is our last week before two weeks of Fall Break, October 5–16. We hope everyone enjoys a safe and relaxing break, and we look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday, October 19, for the start of Quarter 2!

We’re excited to welcome everyone to Anderson High School for our Homecoming game this Friday night! The start time is a little later than normal, with kickoff at 7:30 PM.

Please keep these important reminders in mind:
Gates open at 6:30 PM -one hour before kickoff.
Gates close at 8:30 PM -one hour after kickoff, even for those with pre-purchased tickets. Please arrive on time if you want to see the halftime festivities.
Students younger than high school must be accompanied by a parent/legal guardian who remains with and monitors them throughout the game. Elementary, intermediate, and middle school students may not be dropped off at the game. Students who arrive without a parent/legal guardian will not be permitted entry.

We look forward to seeing everyone Friday night.

SAVE THE DATE! The 26th annual Keith Trent's Coats of Caring distribution is scheduled for Saturday, November 7, 2026 from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm (Noon). It will take place at Anderson High School, 4610 Madison Avenue, Anderson, Indiana 46013. Coats of Caring offers a free winter coat to Madison County residents who need one. It is a drive-thru event. You must be present to receive a coat.
