McLees Elementary showed out today for International Dot Day. We came in the building wearing smiles as we proudly displayed our dots. Some students forgot it was Dot Day but that didn’t stand in our way. Those students were quick to accept the challenge as we carefully examined outfits and were surprised to discover how many dots we could find on the clothes we wear everyday. I can’t wait to see all the pics and to hear all about the dot related activities that happened throughout the building. In art class we read the book, The Dot, and we were able to watch a video of Peter Reynolds and how he creates his amazing illustrations. We turned the lights out and made our own creations in the dark while making dots with flashlights throughout the room. We listened to relaxing music and put a beautiful fall scene on the board to set the mood for creativity. Many classes still needed to finish Art To Remember pieces and some classes got a jump start on learning about new artists such as Vincent van Gogh, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Alma Thomas. We even reviewed what we already know about Henri Matisse and Wassily Kandinsky and we talked about the similarities and differences among their work. It’s been such a fun, art filled day and all the dots made the day extra special. Being courageous, creative, and collaborating is the McLees way. We make our mark on the world each and every day.
