With 8,606 votes reporting, Terry Frank has wonreelection as mayor of Anderson County.

The race was deeply divisive for many people in Anderson County. A lot of voters felt talked down to, pushed aside, or made to feel like local government wasn’t meant for them. That should concern everyone, no matter who they supported.

At the same time, elections have consequences, and the voters who showed up made their choice. With turnout sitting at only around 16% of registered voters, though, it’s also a reminder of how small the deciding group can become when people disengage or stay home. A county of more than 80,000 people is bigger, more diverse, and more complicated than the few thousand voices who ultimately decided this race.

The office of county mayor belongs to all of Anderson County — not just Republicans, Democrats, insiders, donors, or the loudest people online. The real test starts now. Governing is different than campaigning. Hopefully everyone involved walks away from this election having learned something about the kind of leadership people are hungry for: leadership that listens, includes, and recognizes that every community in this county deserves to feel seen.

Now we turn towards August where Sheriff and our next bench of County Commissioners are decided.

Early Voting is over. Election Day is Tuesday, May 5th. Polls are open from 9 AM to 8 PM.

Before voters choose the next Anderson County Mayor, they deserve a clear look at how these campaigns are being funded, and what debts they are carrying.

Campaign debt is not automatically unusual. Candidates often loan money to their own campaigns, especially in local races. Those loans can stay on the books until they are repaid, forgiven, or otherwise resolved.

But the size and history of those loans matters.

When a campaign is carrying large outstanding debt, voters can ask fair questions: Is this campaign being funded by broad community support? Is it being kept afloat by personal loans? Is future fundraising going toward reaching voters, or eventually paying back old campaign debt?

As of the Pre-Primary 2026 report, neither candidate had paid down the outstanding loans during the reporting periods we reviewed.

That does not tell voters everything. But it does tell voters something.

Money in local politics matters because it reveals the structure behind a campaign: who is giving, who is lending, who is investing, and what kind of support a candidate has actually built.

This race will help decide the direction of Anderson County government. The budgets, priorities, appointments, services, and accountability.

Election Day is Tuesday. Make your plan. Look at the disclosures. Ask the questions. And don’t let a small number of voters decide the future of Anderson County for everyone else.

What does campaign money actually tell us?

Campaign finance reports are more than just numbers. They show who is investing in a candidate, and what kind of support that candidate is built on.

That should matter in local government.

When a campaign is backed by retirees and local residents, that tells one story. When another campaign receives thousands from PACs, business interests, family networks, and executives, owners, managers, and consultants, that tells another.

Neither voters nor taxpayers should have to guess who has a seat at the table.

The fair question is simple: What do those donors think they’re investing in?

Because after Election Day, the relationships behind a campaign do not disappear.

We encourage every voter to review the disclosures, ask questions, and make an informed decision.

This race is not just about who wins. It is about who the campaign is built on.

Early voting is over in Anderson County. And the numbers should get everyone’s attention.

Only 5,862 people voted early out of 48,397 active registered voters. That is just 12.11% turnout.

That means a very small number of people are deciding big things for everyone else. Mayor. Sheriff. County leadership. Local offices that shape budgets, public safety, schools, roads, animal services, transparency, and the future of Anderson County.

And in several races, the primary will decide the outcome. So if you are registered and you have not voted yet, now is the time to make your plan.

Election Day is Tuesday, May 5.

Yes, voting can be annoying. Yes, schedules are busy. Yes, it takes a little planning. But you do not want someone else deciding your future without your say.

A handful of voters should not get to speak for all of Anderson County.

Make your plan. Show up. Vote.

Campaign finance reports help voters understand not only how much money candidates raise, but where that money comes from.

Based on reviewed disclosures for the Anderson County mayor’s race, Josh Anderson reported $300 in donations from outside Anderson County, while Terry Frank reported $37,245 from outside Anderson County.

This is not the only factor voters should consider, but it is part of the public record and worth reviewing.
