AHS Class of 1975
Andalusia High School Class of 1975
Andalusia, Alabama

Dr. Daniel Shakespeare, Class of 1975, was given the Andalusia High School Outstanding Graduate Award on Friday, September 26, 2025. I knew that Daniel was principal at Andalusia High School and that he is now superintendent of Andalusia City Schools. Things you never knew about your classmates: Dr. Shakespeare was principal at AHS for 18 years. Daniel was slated to be on the 1980 Olympic Track Team. (If you remember, the 1980 Summer Olympics were held in Moscow and the USA boycotted the 1980 Olympics due to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Over 60 countries boycotted those Olympics.) Dr. Shakespeare quoted the Andalusia High School Alma Mater in his speech where he also called out those who had encouraged him. Those that I remember him mentioning are his teacher Dorothy Crawford and his 100-year-old mother who was present in the audience. Pictured are Joe Nix, Katie Powell, Dr. Daniel Shakespeare, and Sandra Kay Moore. Note: Separate photograph of Coach Sharpe who also received this award in the comments.
If you know of a graduate that should be nominated, contact Dr. Mike Wells, Chairman, AHS Scholarship Foundation at [email protected] or www.ahssf.org. You can donate to the scholarship fund on this same website as well as see all of the award recipients.

Classmate Daniel Shakespeare will be honored this Friday as an Andalusia High School Outstanding Graduate. Congratulations to Daniel!. Yea, Class of 1975! Also, Miss Annalee and Miss Clyde Simmons. I had both of them in the seventh grade and I think that was the last year they taught. The are sisters and my father's mother's nieces. If you are not in the high school auditorium on Friday morning, then, this would be the place to be!

Photo from Coach Sharp and Joe Nix. Isn't 1974 the year the playoff game was at Legion Field in Birmingham?

It was great to visit with Coach Don Sharpe today. He was kind enough to endorse my city council re-election campaign. He brought along a piece of memorabilia from the 1974 AHS Football Season. He looks very well at the age of 84.
