We are proud to celebrate three outstanding leaders recently elected to the 2026 Alaska Adult Education Association (AAEA) Board of Directors!

✨ Ma'Ya Blount was elected as the Anchorage Region Representative. As the Center for Workforce Excellence’s (CfWE) Anchorage Academic and Distance Learning Manager at Nine Star, Ma'Ya continues to demonstrate exceptional leadership, dedication, and passion for advancing adult education opportunities throughout our community.

✨ Former Nine Star team member Hye Suh was elected as the Stakeholder Representative (Statewide). Throughout the years, Hye wore many hats with us at Nine Star and continues to be a passionate advocate for education and workforce development across Alaska.

✨ Janel Harris was elected as the South-Central/Kodiak Region Representative. As a Maritime Instructor and Adult Education Instructor with Kenai Peninsula College: Kachemak Bay Campus, Janel brings valuable experience and dedication to adult learners across Alaska.

AAEA President Heidi Biskeborn shared that these leaders bring “valuable experience, insight, and leadership” that will help advance accessible, high-quality learning opportunities for adults across the state.

A Heartfelt Farewell to a Nine Star Pillar 🌟

This week is bittersweet as we officially say goodbye to the incredible Lori Fitzpatrick, who will be finishing her journey with Nine Star this Friday.

Lori has been a true force of nature! From her start at Muldoon Case Management to her transformative work with Adult Education in Mat-Su, then back to Work Services, she is finishing her journey as one of our most passionate Leaders. Her legacy of service and heart for the community will be felt for years to come.

Lori, we are so grateful for your leadership and excited for the beautiful retirement you have ahead of you. Thank you for everything!
