Tonight, October 17th , member June will tell us about a small, innocent creature that gets a bad rap, especially this time of year. Hold your hand up to your heart and feel it beat for a few seconds. Now imagine instead of beating 80 beats per minute, your heart beats 350 instead. That’s what it would feel like to have the heart of a rat. Every October, rats are portrayed in the media and through Halloween decorations as dirty, scary, and evil creatures—and this challenges our ability to empathize with them. June will explore why these rat stereotypes are far from the truth.

The fun and learning will continue as the Table Topics Master, Lynea, presents intriguing and entertaining topics for our members to speak impromptu as we learn to think on our feet.

We have a real treat for our online Greatland Toastmasters meeting tonight - our renowned storyteller, John Spieker, will tell an enchanting story!

John grew up in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, an area rich with the tradition of storytelling, where the truth can be stretched a w-e-e bit. Many of the stories John heard pertained to the haunted, abandoned houses that still stood throughout the mountains. Tonight, John will tell us a story about the haunted house that he grew up in.

Speech Title: Your House is Haunted.
