That's a wrap on Summer Engineering Academies!

A huge thank you to ConocoPhillips Alaska and the MTA Foundation for making another amazing summer of hands-on engineering possible. We also appreciate Carolyn Kirchner and Sarah Rogers from ConocoPhillips for inspiring our students on the final day.

See you next summer! ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’›

Not to brag, but our alumni are literally Olympic medalists. This week's is Anchorage's own Gus Schumacher, B.S. Civil Engineering, '24!

Gus has competed in two Winter Olympics, the 2022 Beijing Games and this year's Milan-Cortina games. This year, he and Ben Ogden earned a silver medal for Team U.S.A. in the men's team sprint free! Gus loved his classes at UAA and the friendships he made during his time here. Read more about this Olympic alumnus here: heyor.ca/71DPZX

We have another two-time Olympian for this week's -- Hailey Swirbul, B.S. '21.

Swirbul earned her Civil Engineering degree in 2021, not long after her Olympic debut in the 2020 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, China. She was part of the Steel Bridge design team for UAA College of Engineering, assisted in the structural engineering lab and also encouraged fellow alum and Olympian Gus Schumacher to attend UAA. More recently, Swirbul was on Team USA once again for the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. Read more about Swirbul here: heyor.ca/iz0Ljh

From Alaska to aerospace!

This summer, a UAA College of Engineering student, Maxwell Cason, gained hands-on internship experience at Boeing in Washington, working alongside industry professionals and exploring the world of commercial aviation.

We're proud to see our students taking their skills beyond the classroom and into careers that make an impact.

Congratulations, and thank you to Boeing and ANSEP for supporting the next generation of engineers! ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’›

Big ideas start young. ๐Ÿ’ก

Liam has always loved engineering and STEM, and Summer Engineering Academies gave him the chance to dive into hands-on learning that's both fun and challenging.

Hearing from parents about the impact these experiences have on their children is what drives us to do what we do. Thank you for trusting us to help inspire the next generation of engineers, innovators, and problem-solvers.

Also, we'd love to thank our sponsors, SEA ConocoPhillips and the MTA Foundation.

Innovation is rolling at Summer Engineering Academies!

Our 3rdโ€“5th grade students put their engineering skills to the test by designing and building balloon-powered cars. Through hands-on experimentation, theyโ€™re learning about force, motion, problem-solving, and the engineering design process.

The future of engineering is looking bright.
