Our 10th-grade Russian Immersion students had an excellent opportunity to learn about the fascinating work of Russian linguists researching a unique local dialect in Ninilchik: Alaskan Russian.

The students heard many fascinating facts and stories about this special variety of Russian and learned more about its history, development, and significance as part of Alaska’s cultural heritage.

A huge thank you to Mira Bergelson and Andrej Kibrik for taking the time to meet with our students and share your knowledge and research! We truly appreciate this wonderful opportunity to connect our students with such an interesting part of Alaska’s linguistic history.

On September 1st, our West High students celebrated Knowledge Day (День знаний).

To join in the spirit of the day, students dressed up for school. Traditionally, Knowledge Day fashion features white tops and black bottoms, but there are many variations—the most important part is looking your best and celebrating the start of a new school year!

It was wonderful to see our Russian Immersion students embracing this beautiful tradition with style, smiles, school spirit, and enthusiasm. 🌟

Our Turnagain Russian Immersion students celebrated September 1st with beautiful flowers, bright smiles, new friends, and lots of excitement for the year ahead. 🤩What a wonderful way to kick off a new school year with our MIR community—families, students, teachers, and supporters coming together to celebrate and strengthen the ASD Russian Immersion Program!

Our first membership meeting was filled with warm conversations, delicious food, community spirit, and plenty of smiles. We were especially happy to welcome new families and see our students enjoying time together outdoors. 🌿☀️

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us, brought food, shared their time, and continues to support MIR! Your involvement makes a difference.

There’s something special about kindergarten Russian immersion—every day is an opportunity to discover a new word, explore new ideas, and learn through joyful, hands-on experiences. 🖍️ 📚

Our little learners are building confidence, curiosity, communication skills, and friendships while having FUN along the way! 🧸🤗🐯
