Move-In Volunteer Day 07/23/2026

Rilke Families,

As we move into a new building, there are many tasks that need to be completed to ensure we are back-to-school ready!
Volunteer hours will be in two sessions, from 9:00-12:00 and 12:00-3:30. Volunteer for one or both sessions!

General tasks will include:

Cleaning classroom spaces
Wiping down shelves
Organizing furniture
Unpacking boxes

Teachers will also have tasks written on their classroom whiteboards that they would like volunteers to complete as time allows.

We could also use cleaning supplies, such as Clorox wipes, Magic Erasers, cleaning rags, buckets, or other basic cleaning supplies if available.

Please find slots below to see how you can help! You are also welcome to bring your students to lend a hand.

Dear Rilke Families,

We have received several questions regarding the updated dress code and wanted to provide some clarification on the recent changes. From the previous dress code, there have been little restrictions made, but several options added to allow for student comfort while not creating distractions in the learning environment.

Key Dress Code Changes

-Leggings must be solid in color. Patterned leggings are no longer permitted.
-Joggers and leggings are now approved bottom wear. Joggers and leggings must be solid in color. These are options that may be worn any day in addition to khakis, chinos, shorts and skirts/skorts/dresses falling below fingertips. Blue jeans may only be worn on Fridays.
-Solid-colored sweatshirts, hoodies, and zip-up hoodies are now approved. Rilke logo hoodies may also be worn. Blouses, jumpers and dresses are still acceptable. Tops must be solid in color and have a collar and sleeves. Shirts/T-shirts without a collar and sleeves are not permitted. The exception is official Rilke logo wear (Oktoberfest, Kinderlauf, travel club, Battle of the Books, etc.) which may be worn at any time. Students in grades 5–8 may wear plaid or striped collared shirts any day of the week.
-Hair dye has been removed from the policy. There are no current restrictions.

All clothing should:
-Be clean and free of holes.
-Meet length requirements outlined in the dress code.
-Follow all other dress code expectations regarding hats, outerwear, and appropriate school attire.
-Be appropriate in size

For further information, please be sure to check e-mails that have been sent this past week regarding dress code and the community handbook. Thank you for your support as we work to ensure consistency in dress code expectations across the school. We appreciate your partnership and understanding as students and families adjust to these updates. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Herr Barr or Herr Vincent-Lang directly.

Sincerely,

Rilke Schule Administration

Hallo Rilke Schule Familien!

Yesterday we shared out a link to the newly revised and adopted Dress Code. We were informed that IT WAS THE WRONG LINK. Our apologies. You can find the correct link below.

Updated Dress Code and Healthy Food Guidance-

At the end of the 2025–2026 school year, the Academic Policy Committee (APC) approved updates to the Rilke Schule Dress Code and Healthy Food Guidance. These revisions were developed collaboratively with students, families, and staff with the goal of providing greater clarity and consistency.

You can review the updated policies here:

Rilke Schule Community Handbook-

We are also excited to introduce the new Rilke Schule Community Handbook, which serves as a one-stop resource for important information about our school. The handbook is designed to make it easier for families to find answers to common questions throughout the school year.

We are currently finalizing a few details related to student drop-off and pick-up procedures at our new Lake Otis facility. Once those details are complete, the handbook will also be available on the school website.

In the meantime, you can view the handbook here:

Activity and Supply Fees-

As a charter school, Rilke Schule operates on a carefully managed budget. Our annual activity and supply fees play an important role in providing students with the materials and experiences that create an engaging, enriching learning environment.

Fees may be paid beginning in August and can be submitted at any time during the school year. However, we greatly appreciate payments made during the first semester, as they allow us to purchase supplies and plan student activities throughout the year.

Payments can be made by credit or debit card through your student's Q ParentConnection account:
https://parentconnect.asdk12.org/

Activity Fee: $125
This fee supports field trips, transportation, guest speakers, special classroom activities, and other enriching learning experiences in and outside the classroom..

Supply Fee: $100
Rather than asking families to purchase a traditional school supply list, Rilke collects a supply fee that allows us to purchase classroom materials in bulk. These funds provide student supplies such as crayons, paper, glue, pencils, scissors, folders, storage containers, and instructional materials. They also cover classroom essentials used by teachers, including copy paper, pens, sticky notes, dry erase markers, tissues, paper towels, and other instructional supplies. In addition, the fee helps support schoolwide supplies for Art, Physical Education, and Music.

Personal Items
Students should still come to school with their own backpack, binder, lunchbox, water bottle, gym shoes, art shirt, and any other personal items that travel between home and school.

Thank you for supporting our school. Your partnership helps make the exceptional learning experiences at Rilke Schule possible.

Volunteer Work Day-
Thank you to everyone who helped during our recent volunteer work days. Thanks to your hard work, nearly all of our materials have been moved into classrooms, and the Lake Otis building is truly beginning to feel like Rilke Schule.

We are planning another volunteer work day on Saturday, July 25, to help prepare classrooms before teachers return. Volunteers will assist with tasks such as:

Wiping down drawers and shelves
Cleaning countertops
Washing windows
General classroom cleaning and preparation
Since most teachers will not yet be back by July 25, this work will make a tremendous difference and help ensure classrooms are ready for staff to unpack materials and set up learning spaces.

Please keep Saturday, July 25 on your calendar. We will send out an official sign-up at the beginning of that week with additional details and volunteer opportunities.

Thank you again for your continued support, generosity, and commitment to our school community. We are excited to welcome everyone back soon for another wonderful year at Rilke Schule!

Mit freundlichen Grüßen,

Your Rilke Schule Admin Team

Liebe Rilke Schule Gemeinschaft,

Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time and energy over the past few days. The support from our families and community has been incredible, and together we accomplished a tremendous amount of work. Your willingness to lend a hand made a significant difference and helped us make remarkable progress in preparing our school.

Because so many of our initial tasks have already been completed, we will not be hosting a volunteer work day tomorrow.

We do plan to host another volunteer work day closer to the start of the school year, likely on a weekend, or after our teachers have returned so volunteers can assist with classroom setup and other final preparations. We will share those details as soon as they are finalized.

The work completed over the past two days is a wonderful testament to the strength, generosity, and spirit of the Rilke Schule community. We are truly grateful to everyone who gave their time, talents, and positive attitude to help prepare our school for another great year.

Thank you again for your continued support. We look forward to seeing everyone soon!

Mit herzlichem Dank,

Chris and Cam- The Rilke Schule Administration

Happy Summer, Rilke Community!
We hope you and your families are enjoying a wonderful, restful summer! Thank you for everything you have done to support our school community throughout this exciting transition.
Our Rilke team has been hard at work moving into our new home at the Lake Otis facility. Nearly all of our furniture and pallets have arrived, and while some classrooms are beginning to take shape, there is still plenty of unpacking and organizing to do. Hallways, the MPR, and the gym are currently filled with pallets of classroom materials waiting to find their new homes.
As always, one of Rilke's greatest strengths is our incredible community. The administrative team is reaching out to see if any family members are available to lend a hand as we begin unpacking and organizing classrooms.
Herr Vincent-Lang and Herr Barr will be at the school on Monday, July 6, Tuesday, July 7, and Wednesday, July 8, and the building will be open for volunteers from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Whether you can stay for an hour or several hours, any time you are able to give will make a meaningful difference.
If you are interested in helping, please email Herr Vincent-Lang at [email protected] to let him know when you plan to stop by. As a small thank-you for your support, volunteer time during these workdays will count as double volunteer hours. Herr Vincent-Lang will have a note on the front entrance of the building with a contact number for you to get a hold of him if you need help upon arriving.
If these dates don't work for your schedule, no worries at all! We will also be hosting a larger community workday at the end of July, and we look forward to welcoming many more volunteers then.
We are excited to begin preparing our new school for students and families, and we can't wait to fill the building with the learning, laughter, and community spirit that make Rilke such a special place.
Thank you again for your continued partnership and support. We truly appreciate all that our families do for our school. Please keep an eye out for additional updates and information in the coming weeks as we prepare for another fantastic school year.
Have a wonderful rest of your summer. We look forward to seeing you soon!
Onward,
The Rilke Administrative Team

Our 7/8th grade travel club recently returned from their Germany trip! They spent 3 weeks traveling around Germany visiting sights and schools. Thank you to our partner schools, host families and our chaperones who gave them a wonderful experience and gave these students an opportunity to put to use the skills they’ve learned at Rilke. 🇩🇪

Our 6th grade travel club spent last week in Washington DC. They were able to see our nations capital and even take in a MLB game in perfect weather! We’re so grateful our students have the opportunity to see the world outside of their own backyards.
