🎣 CBPP Research in the National Spotlight!

Congratulations to Dr. Kevin Berry, Professor of Economics and Chair of UAA’s Department of Economics & Public Policy, whose research on the economic value of Alaska’s dip net fisheries was recently featured on NPR’s Marketplace!

Dr. Berry’s research, conducted in collaboration with former UAA postdoctoral researcher and current Alaska Pacific University faculty member Dr. Aaron Enriquez, explores the value Alaskans receive from personal-use salmon fishing—value that goes well beyond simply bringing home the catch.

The research is a great example of how CBPP faculty are using economics to better understand issues that matter to Alaska’s communities, families, and way of life.

Another double graduate of UAA, this week's is Kalani Tucker, B.B.A. '19 and M.B.A. '26.

During her time at UAA, Kalani was involved in student clubs like the Native Student Council and Generation Action. Today, Kalani works for the Cook Inlet Tribal Council as the Tribal and Board Relations Manager. Her advice for people wanting to follow a similar path? 🏆 Congratulations to CBPP graduate student John Peckham on being named the 2025–26 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Male Scholar Athlete of the Year!

As a Management graduate student in the College of Business and Public Policy, John has demonstrated excellence in both academics and athletics while competing in NCAA cross country and track and field.

This prestigious recognition celebrates student-athletes who show dedication, discipline, and perseverance in the classroom and in competition.
