🌟 Proud moment for the College of Health!
A poster by Professor Grace Leu-Burke and her Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) students—including standout student researcher Rieluis Martin—was named a Blue Ribbon Finalist at the American Society for Clinical Pathology 2025 Annual Meeting. One of just six posters selected from over 1,500 entries, their work will also be published in an upcoming edition of the American Journal of Clinical Pathology. 🏅📕
🦠🧫 The poster investigates the public health risks of Cryptosporidium, a microbial parasite found in Alaskan urban wildlife, and its potential impact on human health through environmental exposure. All of the research that led to this poster was conducted in Professor Leu-Burke’s MLS classes.
Integrating research projects like these into undergraduate curriculum is also a great way to ensure that students are prepared for a career in clinical laboratory science. “I wanted research to be something that every student was participating in,” said Professor Leu-Burke. “It’s always been my belief that if you do something as an undergrad, you’re more likely to do it when you leave the institution.”
Please join us in congratulating Professor Leu-Burke and her team!
