Almost 50 years ago, NLP mapped out the idea that our eye movements reveal how we access memory. Back then, it sounded radical. Now? Science is catching up.

A new study out of Tel Aviv University shows that eye gaze can predict memory—sometimes even when people say they don’t remember. In other words, your eyes know the truth before your words do.

This is a new hope for working with memory in infants, Alzheimer’s patients, and those recovering from brain injury.

Slowly but surely, the frontier of neuroscience is meeting the Wisdom of NLP.

NLP is celebrating our 50th anniversary this month! Amazing! And as John Grinder, one of the cofounders of NLP says here, many NLP practitioners no longer understand the difference between content and process, surface structure and deep structure. In fact I run into many who don’t understand structure at all, who still call themselves master practitioners. Wisdom students will remember my analogy of receiving a master practitioner certification, to receiving a black belt in martial arts. A black belt does not show mastery, but the ability and readiness to actually start learning! 

The Structure of Magic I, (Bandler and Grinder 1975) was NLP's first book, presenting the Meta Model, built for change agents to identify and challenge the syntax in a client's language as opposed to interpreting and analysing meaning, which until this time was standard in therapy.

Syntax as a primary form for linguistic evaluation was brought to the world of linguistics in 1957 with Noam Chomsky's publication of 'Syntactic Structures'.

The syntactical form of the Meta Model set the scene for NLP patterning to strictly adhere to a form-over-content distinction in the coding of NLP patterning that followed the Meta Model.

Since the coding of Classic NLP (1972 -1980), the content-form distinction has blurred with many modern-day practitioners of NLP, not understanding the difference between a content model and a process model. Content models can not be validated as NLP for reasons published in the Structure of Magic way back in. 1975.
