🌲 What if your classroom stretched beyond four walls?

At Alaska Pacific University, Environmental Studies students learn by engaging directly with the landscapes, communities, and environmental challenges that shape Alaska and our world.

Through hands-on, place-based learning, students explore the connections between people and the environment while building the skills to make a difference in the places they call home.

This is more than studying the environment. It’s preparing to help shape its future. 🌎💙💛

This summer, the Tumyaraa Bridge Program welcomed high school students from across Alaska to APU for two weeks of learning, connection, and community.

Students balanced writing and math courses with hands on experiences that brought learning to life. They explored the Kellogg Campus, visited the Musk Ox Farm, learned about traditional medicine, practiced traditional dance, beading, net mending, and qaspeq making, spent time with Elders, and built friendships that will last long after the program ended. The residency concluded with a community celebration before students returned home.

Thank you to our students, Elders, instructors, mentors, and partners for making this year's Tumyaraa campus intensive such a meaningful experience. We can't wait to see where these future leaders go next.

For nearly two weeks, Alaska Pacific University's Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing program transformed campus into a gathering place for writers, readers, and storytellers.

Students spent their summer residency immersed in workshops, lectures, mentor meetings, and craft talks led by accomplished authors from Alaska and beyond. Evenings brought the community together for the Summer Community Reading Series at Betti's, where faculty, mentors, students, and guest writers shared their work with the public. The residency also featured a keynote reading by bestselling Alaska author Eowyn Ivey, author of The Snow Child!

Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate the power of storytelling!
