Du ji.een (Working With Them) Academy is NOW ENROLLING!
📅 June 1 – July 2 | CITC's Denelchin Lab
This summer, step into a one-of-a-kind 5-week experience where ancestral knowledge meets 21st century technology.
You'll head out into the land to identify and harvest traditional plants, then bring them back to the lab to transform them into **stunning, one-of-a-kind works of art — using lasers, 3D printers, CNC machines, resin, and more.
---
What each week looks like:
Week 1 — Back to the Land
Field work and plant identification in nature. Learn how our ancestors used the land as scientists, mathematicians, and world-class artists — long before contact.
Week 2 — Process & Discover
Learn to process and preserve your harvested materials. Indigenous artists and scientists join us to share their journeys, plus an introduction to digital design.
Week 3 — Create
Studio time focused on producing art that represents your whole self — carving, painting, skin tanning, and hands-on time with 3D printers, CNC, laser cutting, and sublimation printing.
Week 4 — On the Water
Off-site work with Tsimshian boat builder and Elder Doug Modig at APU, contributing to his ongoing Cedar Strip Canoe project.
Week 5 — Show Your Work
Learn how to properly display your creations, with museum experts on site, leading up to Denelchin Lab's very first Art Show!
---
What you get:
✅ $200 back-to-school shopping spree (for students completing 90% of hours)
✅ 0.5 ASD Credit (120 hours of instruction)
✅ Free meals provided
✅ Guidance from Indigenous artists, scientists & Elders
✅ Hands-on experience with professional fabrication equipment
---
This program is open to enrolled CITC Youth Education Program students who are incoming high schoolers. Space is limited — secure your spot today! https://citci.jotform.com/260885326097871
