AFN President Ben Mallott participated in an engaging panel discussion this morning at the Alaska Infrastructure Development Symposium in the session titled “Coordination & Alignment – Shared Priorities & Working Together.” This facilitated discussion by Nils Andreassen explored practical coordination across diverse communities and organizations, focusing on shared services, regional collaboration, and the alignment of priorities.

The Alaska Federation of Natives, the largest statewide Native organization in Alaska, applauds the passage of Senate Bill 64, a comprehensive election reform measure, and urges Governor Mike Dunleavy to sign the bill into law without delay.

Senate Bill 64 passed the Alaska House of Representatives by a 23 to 16 vote on Monday. The bill passed the Senate concurrence vote yesterday by a 16-4 vote. It will now go to the desk of Governor Mike Dunleavy to be signed into law. Held March 4–5 at the AT&T Forum in Washington, D.C., the event brought together Alaska Native tribes, organizations, federal partners, and Congressional leaders to advance self-determination and economic opportunity in Alaska. Through dynamic discussions, we explored innovative partnerships, highlighted the power of tribal sovereignty, and charted new paths for economic growth. Your participation helped make this event a success and set the stage for stronger collaboration in the years ahead.

Big news from the AFN February Board Meeting in Juneau! The AFN Board met with leaders, legislators, and partners to champion Alaska Native priorities. Board members and staff presented to the House Tribal Affairs Committee on the dual regulatory framework for subsistence, aimed at educating legislators and attendees about the legal history and development of the dual management system. Staff also testified on Alaska Native justice issues before the House and Senate State Affairs Committees and the Senate Judiciary Committee regarding the Alaska Native Incarceration Report and solutions to reduce overrepresentation in the justice system. These activities show AFN's commitment to advocacy and building a stronger future for our communities.
