Hands of Peace - AVP Alaska Fun, interactive workshops offered in communities, schools and prisons throughout Alaska.

Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) began in 1975 as a collaboration between inmates in Green Haven Prison and Quakers interested in working with youth gangs and teens at risk. This successful, ongoing program quickly spread throughout New York State prisons and then to other states as a prison program and as a community program for people from all walks of life. AVP is active internationally i

n countries on all inhabited continents. The experiential learning gained through our workshops goes beyond conflict resolution skills and is transforming as it may also increase personal responsibility, empathy, self awareness, and emotional intelligence. This process can be celebrated by all participants who will invest their time, courage and willingness to increase goodness and well being into their lives and the lives of others around them.

Community MMIP Mural project.

Five panels featuring Alaska Native regalia will be painted with names of missing and murdered Indigenous relatives in the background. Join DIJ Fellow Dustin at the Native Movement Community Space in Anchorage, Ak every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 6pm-8pm starting March 10-April 10, 2026. DIJ will provide smudge, light snacks and refreshments.
