Four West students traveled to Juneau for 3 days to represent West Anchorage at the Spring Alaska Association of Student Government (AASG) Conference. The host, Juneau-Douglas High School, created a great environment for the students to engage in discussions throughout their Regional and General Assembly meetings about topics important to all youth across the state. A huge bonus for our West students was the opportunity to meet and learn from State Senators and Representatives from the House.
We appreciate the engagement from Senator Claman, Representative Costello, Senator Dunbar, Representative Fields, and Representative Kopp. Our students learned that while all of these legislatures may not represent our West area, they had connections to West as alumni or parents of alumni. West can be found everywhere! And, as an added bonus we appreciate Rep. Costello for inviting us into the House session showing us government in action.
Along with bringing home the experiences and connections, we are also bringing home two passed resolutions—one will be introduced to the ASD school board and one to our State Legislatures. Finally, we are proud to claim two of the newest State AASG Executive Board Members as our own.  These fabulous ladies represented West well and we know will continue to do so moving forward!
