We are sharing a notice we received from Kaliko Santos of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs (OHA) regarding upcoming emergency distributions taking place at several locations across Kauaʻi.

If you or someone in your ʻohana may be in need, please take note of the dates, times, and locations below. Please also share this information with your family, friends, neighbors, and community members who may benefit. 💛

📢 IMPORTANT SCHOOL CLOSURE UPDATE 🌺

Kanuikapono ʻOhana, please be advised that Kanuikapono Public Charter School will remain closed through Friday, September 11, 2026, per Governor Green’s instructions.

The safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families continue to be our highest priority as we navigate the potential impacts of Hurricane Lowell. We understand that extended school closures can create challenges for our ʻohana, and we sincerely appreciate your continued patience, understanding, and flexibility. 💙

We will do our best to keep students, staff, and families informed and updated as new information becomes available. Please continue to monitor official communications and current conditions from State and County Emergency Management Agencies.

We encourage everyone to prioritize safety, stay informed, and take care of yourselves and your ʻohana during this time. 🌊🌺

Closure Tuesday, September 8

Aloha Kanuikapono Ohana,

We hope everyone is safe and secure during this storm.

The State Charter School Commission shared the following announcement on Monday, September 7:

In anticipation of the potential impact of Hurricane Lowell, all public and charter schools on Kaua'i, as well as state and county offices, will be closed on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

The decision was made out of an abundance of caution due to concerns related to flooding, road conditions and potential power outages.

Kanuikapono PCS will, therefore, not be open tomorrow, Tuesday, September 8. We anticipate a return on Wednesday, September 9. Any student who purchased a lunch for Tuesday the 8th will automatically have a lunch credit for Tuesday September 15th.

Please be safe and take care of yourselves and your neighbors. We look forward to seeing all of you soon. If you need anything from the school, please let us know.

Due to the anticipated possible effects of Hurricane Lowell, Kanuikapono Public Charter School will be closed on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. The safety and well-being of our haumāna, staff, and ʻohana will always remain our top priority. We encourage all employees and families to stay informed and closely monitor updates regarding Hurricane Lowell through the State and County Emergency Management Agencies. 🌧️🌊

Please note that any students or staff who have already paid for Tuesday’s lunch will receive a credit for next Tuesday’s lunch.

We appreciate your patience, understanding, and cooperation as we make decisions with the safety of our entire Kanuikapono community in mind. Please stay safe, stay informed, and take the necessary precautions to care for yourselves and your ʻohana. 💙
