Alright techs, let’s see who’s awake. 👀
This setup is supposed to be checking S-cam end play, but something is definitely off. What’s wrong with this picture?

❄️ "My RV A/C Has No Airflow"

That was the complaint from my neighbor.

No air coming out of the vents. No cooling. They assumed the air conditioner had finally died.

This rooftop unit is approximately 42 years old, so that wasn't an unreasonable assumption.

After climbing onto the roof and opening it up, I found something interesting.

Most RV owners don't realize that on many older rooftop A/C units, the evaporator blower and condenser fan are driven by the same motor.

No motor = no airflow inside.
No condenser airflow outside.
No cooling.

At first glance, it looked like the motor had failed.

But diagnostics beats guessing.

The plastic shroud had broken apart and fallen into the fan blade, physically preventing the motor from turning.

Once the obstruction was removed, the fan spun freely and the system came back to life.

🔧 What I Learned Today:

When a motor won't turn, don't immediately assume the motor is bad.

Check for:

✅ Mechanical obstructions

✅ Broken shrouds or housings

✅ Debris in the fan

✅ Seized bearings

✅ Power and ground

A blocked fan can create the exact same symptom as a failed motor.

This 42-year-old unit is still cooling because we diagnosed the problem before replacing parts.

⚙️ Lesson of the day:

**A symptom tells you what happened. Diagnostics tells you why.**

🚙 Today's Lesson: Don't Blame the Water Pump Too Fast

Neighbor's 2017 F-150 3.5L had a water pump replaced, but still wasn't circulating coolant through the radiator.

Symptoms:
✅ Heater hose around 202°F
✅ Upper radiator hose around 180°F
✅ Lower radiator hose around 165°F
✅ Cooling fans working
✅ Minimal radiator flow

At first glance, you'd think the new water pump wasn't pumping.

Not so fast.

🔧 Cooling System Tip: Follow the Temperature

A quick infrared thermometer check can tell a story.

The thermostat housing measured:

One side: 195°F
Other side: 165°F

That temperature drop across the thermostat is a clue.

If one side is hot and the other side is significantly cooler, the thermostat may not be opening fully, there may be trapped air, or the coolant flow may be restricted.

Too many parts get replaced because nobody stops to ask:

👉 Where is the heat?
👉 Where isn't the heat?
👉 What is the temperature difference telling me?

Remember:

Temperature is data.
Parts are expenses.

The best technicians diagnose before they replace.

Dirty dirty dirty. Need I say more?

21 years. 😳

Pulled what might be the oldest cabin air filter I’ve ever seen. Not only was it original, but the factory assembly tech actually signed and dated it back in 2005. Talk about a time capsule.

This filter has survived multiple presidents, countless oil changes, and apparently every maintenance reminder known to mankind. 🤣

Pro tip: If your cabin air filter has historical significance, it’s probably time to replace it.
