The Montessori House of Children is a private school, and was founded by Mr. and Mrs. V.D.B. Perera. Mrs. Perera was directly trained by Dr. Maria Montessori, the originator of the method. Perera was a Science and Mathematics teacher in Sri Lanka, was on the staff of Washington University (Chemistry Department) in St. Louise, Missouri, and worked as a chemist in California. The first Montessori sc
hool in Anaheim was built on Orange and Walnut grove. The school first opened its doors on September 5, 1968 with a primary class for children 2 years to 6 years. They decided than in order for their students to continue in the Montessori method, a Montessori elementary calss had to be added. A few years later their daughter who was a Montessori student herself, received her Montessori Elementary training in Bergamo, Italy. She joined the staff as their Montessori Elementary teacher. Then Mr. Perera decided to take their elementary training in Bergamo, Italy and added two more teachers to their staff. Maureen Gunawardena is still a Montessori directress in the primary class. Now, their daughter, Dr. Shirani Perera operates the school and is also the elementary teacher. Trevor Luff, a dance examiner teaches the students Ballroom dancing and the children at the school have already taken three medal tests.
