QD Learning

QD Learning Empower Grades 1-12 students to become emerging global leaders through interdisciplinary communication, business, and computing education.

QD Learning provides an integrated after-school program, enrichment classes and summer camps. Our enrichment classes include Public Speaking, Speech and Debate, Reading and Writing, and Chinese classes. Our 2019 Summer & Winter Camp (for K-8) will start middle of June and end middle of August. We offer different levels of speech & debate courses and we take students year-round to local, state, and

national tournaments. We also offer Chinese Immersion that is real-life project-based and designed by credentialed teachers. Our philosophy is to learn by doing; improve problem-solving skills; understand and value diverse world cultures; cultivate creativity, collaboration and perseverance; develop communication and leadership skills.

🎓Graduate Spotlight: Selena Yang

Selena Yang first joined us as a speech and debate student, eventually competing at the 2019 NSDA National Tournament in Dallas. The confidence, performance skills, and stage presence she developed through speech and debate stayed with her as she pursued another form of expression: traditional Chinese folk dance.

Through years of dedicated training, Selena earned top honors at national dance competitions and shared her heritage and artistry through public performances. 💃

Beyond the stage, she demonstrated a strong commitment to leadership and service through the Girl Scouts, earning recognition for her contributions and mentoring younger scouts along the way.

Selena also developed a passion for research, conducting independent projects and exploring important questions across health and the social sciences.

This fall, Selena will begin her next chapter at UC Berkeley. Congratulations, Selena! We are so proud of everything you have accomplished and excited to see where your journey takes you next. 🦡

Graduate Spotlight: Ricky Ma

Throughout high school, Ricky Ma has pursued his passions for both scientific research and music with remarkable dedication.

In the laboratory, he participated in research projects and explored chemistry and chemical engineering in depth. Behind the drum kit, he served as the lead drummer of his school’s Jazz Band, led four ensembles, earned an award at the Mayfair Jazz Fest, and received the highest district rating at the district jazz festival.

Ricky also taught himself music production and has released more than 150 original lo-fi tracks on SoundCloud, earning over 50,000 total plays. He shared his experience by mentoring other students as a drum coach, helping them strengthen their skills and advance to higher-level ensembles. One of his students later became a lead drummer and joined the honors ensemble!

This fall, Ricky will begin his next chapter at New York University. Congratulations, Ricky—we are excited to see where your talents take you next! 💜

📍 This summer, Ricky is offering one-on-one beginner drum lessons in the Irvine area. Interested parents may contact **[email protected]** to connect with him.

🌟 Alumni Spotlight

We’re proud to celebrate QD alum Nathan Han, who has been named Volunteer of the Year by the Buena Park Library! 🎉

Nathan continues to show what it means to lead with purpose. From judging speech and debate tournaments to dedicating his time to community service, he has made a meaningful impact through both his words and his actions.

We’re also excited to share that in the new year, Amanda Lin will continue leading our “Turn the Page” team, helping carry forward this program’s mission of service, literacy, and communication.

A huge congratulations to Nathan and Amanda, and a heartfelt thank-you to Isabelle and Ophelia for their continued contributions. Your dedication reminds us that leadership is about achievement and, more importantly, giving back.
