Today, AUHSD honors Juneteenth, the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States.
Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865, when news of freedom finally reached enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.
We recognize this important moment in American history and honor the resilience, contributions, and enduring legacy of Black Americans.
