Hello Anacortes Middle School Families,

Our 10th Annual AMS Hawk-a-Thon will be taking place Friday, May 22nd! This is a walk/run-athon style event where students are encouraged to ask for donations in the form of pledges to raise funds and awareness for a worthy cause (voted on by students).

What are we supporting?
On this half day, students will walk/run a marked path around AMS as many times as they can to raise funds for the The Orca 🫍Conservancy.

Since 1996 The Orca Conservancy has worked to protect "...the critically endangered Southern Resident killer whales facing extinction. Their survival depends on the changes we make today."

💦How can you support the Hawk-a-thon and the Orca Conservancy?

Pledge forms will be sent home with students today (also available in the front office) and all donations will be due by Friday, May 29th.

Students will be participating and competing with their Hawks Nest classes for this event. Please make sure any donations turned into the front office have the student’s advisory teacher clearly identified. This is a really fun way for students to engage in a philanthropic activity by supporting a meaningful charity and learning about local, national and/or global needs.

Last week's celebration of 'Our Teachers Are Superheroes' was incredible! We adorned our entire staff with superhero-in-disguise shirts, fed them til their hearts and stomachs burst, and shouted out our appreciation for all to hear! Thank you to everyone who helped pull off this fantastic feat, a true testament that not all heroes wear capes!! 🦹🏻‍♂️💥🦸🏼‍♀️🏆💜

We're still looking for a few great people to step up and help lead our PTSA next year. No experience needed - Jobs big and small. The deadline (June 1) to submit names to the Washington State PTA is quickly approaching.

Join us in celebrating them during Teacher Appreciation Week, MAY 4-8 with a full week of shout-outs, gifts, food and sweets. The AMS PTSA has put together a full menu of appreciation for the Anacortes Middle School Staff, including:

**TUESDAY: Power Up Breakfast of Champions - Coffee & Doughnuts provided by the PTSA
**WEDNESDAY: 'SOUP'er Staff Luncheon - Soup Bar Luncheon
**THURSDAY: Build Your Own Superhero Subs - Donation from AMS Families (see below)
**FRIDAY: Superhero Refuel - Sweet Goodies Dessert Bar provided by PTSA

AMS’s final event of the year, 2016 Throwback Hawk Night, is coming up next Friday, May 1st.

ASB is looking for volunteers to chaperone the various activities and the concessions tables. There is no setup or clean up involved as the students plan and run the events themselves. There are two shifts available, broken up into 1.5hrs each. Please take a look at the link below and sign up if you are available! Thank you!!!

Tickets will be available for students to purchase next week during lunches, Wednesday thorugh Friday. They are $5 if purchased at lunches and $7 if purchased at the door on Friday night. Doors open at 5:30 and the event ends at 8pm.

AMS May Hawk Night Volunteers AMS Leadership Students are planning the next Hawk Night Event, scheduled for Friday, May 1st (5:30-8:00 pm).
